Slick Patches for Avalanche?

The Colorado Avalanche head into the New York/New Jersey trip off of a tight 3-2 road win on Saturday against the Vegas Golden Knights. Forwards Nathan MacKinnon and Evan Rodrigues each scored goals on the power-play, which is currently pacing the league at an astonishing 54.9% clip, converting on nine of 17 chances this season. It’s possible we see Alexandar Georgiev get the start for this contest, seeing as it’s his first game against his former club since leaving this past off-season. The 26-year old Bulgarian native played in 129 games for the New York Rangers in parts of five seasons, with a record 58-48-11 and a 2.94 goals-against average. Georgiev is currently 3-0-1 with a 2.76 goals-against average and a .908% save percentage with the Avs.

Big Time Challenge for Blueshirts

The New York Rangers head into this showdown looking to bounce back after a pair of losses to weak competition. Last Thursday, the Rangers dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the San Jose Sharks. Defenseman Erik Karlsson ended the contest 49 seconds into extra time with a point blank shot that beat goalie Igor Shesterkin. New York followed up with another less than stellar performance on Sunday evening, losing to the Columbus Blue Jackets by a score of 5-1. Backup goaltender Jaroslav Halak got the nod in net, and let in a pair of soft goals in the second period, putting the Blueshirts in a 3-0 deficit that proved to be too much to overcome. Forward Artemi Panarin continued his hot run, scoring a power-play goal, his forth tally of the season and his 12th point in just six games. It’s expected that Igor Shesterkin will get the start in goal for this contest against the defending Stanley Cup champs.

Avalanche vs Rangers Betting Odds

Sportsbooks have the Rangers betting line as short favorites in the pick’em range against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night priced in the range around -110 to -120.

These two clubs have identical records as both favorites and underdogs heading into this matchup, each going 2-3 as favorites and 1-1 as underdogs. Colorado has won two of their first three games on the road while the Rangers are playing .500 hockey at home with a 2-2 record. The Avalanche have won four of the last five meetings with the Rangers, but the home team is 6-1 in the last seven matchups overall.

The total for this contest is set at 6.5 goals shaded heavily to the Under around the -115 to -120 range. Colorado is 4-2 to the Over this season, largely thanks in part to their lethal power-play unit offensively. The New York Rangers are trending to the under at a 2-4 mark this season and dating back to the playoff last year, the Blueshirts have gone Under the total in nine of their last 11 games.
