Panthers Look to Turn On the Power

Florida’s power play was unstoppable in Game 3 as the Panthers scored four times on six man-advantage situations. On those six power plays, Florida fired 11 shots on Boston goalie Jeremy Swayman. It is been more of a struggle in the last two games.

Florida is just 1-for-10 on the power play in Games 4 and 5, as Swayman has stopped 16 of the 17 shots when Florida is on the power play. Keep that in mind when looking at the Panthers vs Bruins betting odds.

Something to watch is that Florida was called for an embellishment penalty, as the Bruins’ complaints about how this series has been officiated have become more frequent as the series progresses.

Six of Florida’s last eight games finished over the total.

Will the Captain Be Back?

The extra day of rest might be coming at the perfect time.

When looking at the Bruins schedule, this is the only time in this series that there are two days between games, so perhaps that will allow first-line winger and team captain Brad Marchand to return to action.

Marchand left Game 3 after being hit in the head by Florida’s Sam Bennett. He missed Games 4 and 5. However, he did make the trip to Florida for Game 5 before being ruled out.

Obviously, his availability will impact the Panthers vs Bruins betting odds as Joe Pavelski of the Dallas Stars is the only active player on a team still alive in the playoffs with more career Stanley Cup Playoff goals than Marchand.

Boston hasn’t scored more than two goals in each of the last four games so it would be a huge bonus if Marchand, the all-time leading goal scorer in Boston’s playoff history, can return to the ice.

Fifteen of Boston’s last 21 games went under the total.

Panthers vs Bruins Injury Report

Obviously, the biggest news item will be the status of Marchand.

Florida continues to be without winger Ryan Lomberg.

Panthers vs Bruins Betting Preview

For all the talk of payback after the hit that kept Marchand off the ice, the Bruins figured out that the best revenge comes on the scoreboard.

Boston is at home with a chance to steal a page from Florida’s 2023 playoff script. The Bruins led the 2023 first-round series 3-1 with Game 5 at home. Florida would win three games in a row in the hockey playoffs, two in Boston, to stun the Bruins. If Boston can win on Friday, the Bruins will have a chance to return the favor.

Florida has had 11 more power plays in the series but power plays are 7-5 in Florida’s favor in the two games won by the Bruins. Boston has hurt itself with three too many men on the ice penalties in the series.

The Bruins have lost all three of their games this season as a home underdog with two of those defeats coming in this series. The Florida Panthers standings have Florida knowing that there could still be a deciding Game 7 at home if the Panthers can’t put the Bruins away on Friday.

Two of Florida’s three playoff series wins were clinched on the road in 2023 and the Panthers would love to celebrate in Boston after sending the Bruins out of the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Florida has won 18 of its last 21 games as the road favorite, and the Panthers have covered against the puck line in 14 of those games.

Florida is 52-23-2 as a favorite this season, with Boston 8-9-4 when listed as the underdog.

The Panthers are 29-16 against the puck line on the road, with just 18 of those games going over the total.
Boston has a losing record at home in this year’s playoffs. However, Game 5 was the first time since the series opener when it looked like the teams were evenly matched. Don’t be surprised to see the third game in a row go under the 5.5-goal total.

There isn’t much value to go with the Bruins to cover at -210 as the 1.5-goal underdog but going with the Bruins to win outright could pay off in the end.
