Bruins vs. Stars Betting Preview and Prediction

Both Looking to Rebound After Losses

Now that the Super Bowl is over, we turn our full daily attention to the NHL betting odds starting with tonight’s marquee match-up. Both teams have managed to stay off the NHL injury report, but one key member, Jake Debrusk, should return to the Bruins lineup, Tuesday. The Bruins still lead the Atlantic Division by 11 points over the Toronto Maple Leafs, while the Dallas Stars are on top of the Central Division but by a slim 3-points over the Winnipeg Jets. Let’s start our Bruins vs. Stars betting preview, starting with the Boston Bruins.

Bruins Refocused After Home Loss

If you watched the Bruins 2-1 home loss to the Washington Capitals, you would know that Boston was still on break. Of course the officiating also seemed to be on break, putting the Bruins in a position of defense for most of the night.

It took a 5-3 advantage, after three straight penalties in a matter of 28 seconds, to give the Capitals the edge they needed. Despite the referee finger pointing, Jim Montgomery’s team was lethargic at best. The lone goal, from one of the league’s most potent offenses, was simply a product of a lack of execution and trying to be cute in their offensive zone. The over is just 22-28 for the high-octane Bruins, mostly due to the fact they own NHL’s top defense. With Debrusk expected to join the line-up, it will give the B’s another offensive weapon to a line-up that already owns a dynamic top-six.

We think Boston will play an uptempo game as they did the last time they dropped a home game against Seattle, 3-0. After that loss they put up four goals on the Toronto Maple Leafs, cashing an over ticket. Let’s continue our Bruins vs Stars betting preview by turning our attention to the Dallas Stars.

Stars Can Send Early Message

Many think the Dallas Stars will represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Final. Makes sense considering they own a top 10 statistical spot in goals (3.40), power play (24.8%), faceoffs won (54.7%), and goals against (2.5). Much like the Bruins they are built to play solid defense in front of a terrific backstop in Jake Oettinger (2.22 GAA). 19 of 33 decisions have cashed under tickets, with a push.

Dallas featured a +42 goal differential, tied with the New Jersey Devils and second to the Bruins +80. However, you could say that Boston and Dallas head into this game with a bitter taste after the Stars also managed just one goal in a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Saturday. For bettors, we know that when two teams who have the same tendencies meet, we may want to look at an angle to go the other way.

Public Will Think Different, Total Cashes Ticket

This happens across all sports, the public’s mental hard drive has room for one or two games. Then you throw in a statistical backing and the bettors are all over it. With both teams boasting top defenses, you can bet that the public will be on the under. With both teams coming off sluggish offensive performances, the number will be ripe for sharp players to take advantage.

Dallas has now cashed eight straight and nine of 10 unders, but when something is too good to be true, you know the rest. To conclude our Bruins vs Stars betting preview, we recommended betting the over with both teams looking to put their last games behind them.
