Railed Out in Raleigh?

The Carolina Hurricanes look to regroup on the road for Game 3 Monday after another tough loss in Overtime at the hands of Matthew Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers. The Canes had a solid start in Game 2 on Saturday night, scoring the first goal of the game thanks to forward Jalen Chatfield less than two minutes into the contest. After both clubs had goals waived off in the opening frame, Carolina played a fairly clean, mistake-free game.

Florida’s lone regulation tally by Aleksander Barkov is one of the best goals you will see on a highlight reel this year. And a minor hooking penalty taken by winger Jesperi Kotkaniemi early in overtime proved costly as that power-play would be converted for the winning goal. Carolina is in a frustrating place right now, down 0-2 in the series, despite having chances in both contests and essentially losing coin-flips at the end.

The Hurricanes just have to keep their composure and take things one period at a time. We will see what choice Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour makes as far as who starts in goal for Carolina. Antti Raanta got the start in Game 2 after Frederik Andersen played in the four-overtime marathon in Game 1. Signs most likely point to Andersen getting the nod. The 33-year-old Danish netminder is 5-1 with a 1.65 goals-against average and a .965% save percentage in seven starts this postseason.

Cardiac Cats Continue to Cruise

The Florida Panthers’ Cinderella Story continues into this Game 3 on Monday night as the “Cardiac Cats” have a 2-0 series lead over the Carolina Hurricanes. Forward Matthew Tkachuk has continued to be the Most Valuable Player for this Florida squad, scoring both of the game-winning goals in this series, with the first one coming late into the night as the Panthers won in the fourth overtime.

Tkachuck’s tally came at the 139:43 mark, making it the sixth-longest game in Stanley Cup Playoff history. Add into the mix the superb goaltending of Sergei Bobrovsky, who started the playoffs backing up Alex Lyon, and then once taking over in the middle of the Boston Bruins series, the 34-year-old veteran has dazzled, going 9-2 with a 2.32 goals-against average and a .931% save percentage.

Florida has all of the momentum going in their favor right now, and with the series shifting back home for the next two games, they need to capitalize on the moment like they have been doing and we could possibly see the Prince of Wales Trophy stick around in the state of Florida for the fourth consecutive year.

Panthers vs Hurricanes Betting Odds

Sportsbooks have the visiting Carolina Hurricanes odds to win as short favorites against the hosting Florida Panthers on Monday night priced in the range around -115 to -120.

This is the tenth game this postseason where Carolina has been favored, with the Hurricanes winning six of their last nine games in that role. For Florida, it’s their eleventh game of the postseason as an underdog. In the last ten games for the Panthers, all nine victories have come as underdogs, with the lone loss coming in Game Four of the series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where Florida was a very short -110 favorite.

The total for this contest is set at 5.5 goals shaded slightly to the Over around the pick’em range between -110 to -120. Florida has played in seven consecutive games Under the total while Carolina had been on a 7-2 run to the Over, before going Under in the Game Five elimination win over the New Jersey Devils and both of the games in this current series going Under the total. Carolina has gone Over in five of their last six road games, and the Over has cashed in seven of the previous ten meetings in Sunrise between these two clubs.
