Kraken vs Stars Odds for Game 7: Dallas Returns Home Looking to Punch Ticket to Western Conference Finals

Can Kraken Win Road Game 7, Twice?

Trip to Western Conference Finals On the Line in Monday Night’s Game 7

It has come down to a winner-take-all Game 7 as the visiting Seattle Kraken look to reach the Western Conference Finals in its second NHL season while Dallas is seeking to reach the conference finals for the second time in the last 15 seasons. The Kraken vs Stars Odds for Game 7 favors Dallas to take care of business at home.

Seattle already eliminated the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in seven games in the first playoff series in franchise history. Dallas is 3-5 in Game 7s since relocating from Minnesota in 1993.

This has been a crazy series. After Seattle won in overtime in Game 1, each of the last five games have been decided by at least two goals with the losing team making a goalie change during the game in three of the last four contests.

This is the only second-round series when both teams are averaging at least four goals per game even though both the Stars and Kraken have fewer than 30 shots on goal in the first six games.

Seattle winger Daniel Sprong is questionable as a result of an upper-body injury, while fellow forwards Andre Burakovsky, Joonas Donskoi and John Hayden are all out for the Kraken.

Dallas is in a pretty good place from an injury standpoint heading into Game 7 as Mason Marchment not only returned to action in Game 6, he had a goal and four shots on goal. That will play a role in how the NHL expert picks shake out in Game 7.

Dallas went from +400 to +500 in the odds to win the Stanley Cup title after the Game 6 loss. Seattle’s championship odds moved from +3300 to +1400 according to the NHL playoff odds.

Newcomers Delivering

When the NHL 2022-23 season started, Eeli Tolvanen was with the Nashville Predators while Tye Kartye as was playing with the American Hockey League’s Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Seattle fans were happy to see both of them on the ice in Game 6. Tolvanen had a goal and two assists and was fifth among the forwards in time on ice. Kartye had a goal and was second among the forwards with four hits. Kartye leads all Seattle forwards with 33 hits during the series with Tolvanen tied for fourth among the Kraken forwards with 16 hits.

Tolvanen has two goals and three assists in the series while Kartye has two goals and two assists with a +4 rating, second only to Jordan Eberle among Seattle forwards in the first six games. Even with their production, Seattle is listed as the underdog according to the Kraken vs Stars Odds for Game 7.

It’s Now or Never

When looking at Dallas players with the most Game 7 goals, it is not much of a surprise to see veteran Joe Pavelski with three goals in the seventh and deciding games. Pavelski is tied with Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals for the most goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs (72) among active players.

The other Dallas forward with three Game 7 goals might be a little harder to guess. Joel Kiviranta has scored six career goals in the Stanley Cup playoffs and three of them have come in Game 7s. When he was a rookie, Kiviranta had a hat trick, including the game-winning goal in overtime as the Stars closed out Colorado back in 2019. That was just his third career NHL postseason game.

With the previous success by Pavelski and Kiviranta and the fact that Seattle’s top Game 7 goal scorer (Andre Burakovsky) is out, it is not a surprise that the Kraken vs Stars Odds for Game 7 favors Dallas.

Handicapping The Series

Each of the nine games played between the Kraken and Stars this season went over the total with four of the six games in the series finishing with nine goals scored.

Seattle is second and Dallas third in goals scored per game in the second round.

Dallas is 4-for-16 on the power play with Seattle converting on just two of the 13 man-advantage opportunities.

Seattle is +11 in hits per 60 minutes while Dallas is winning 58.2% of the faceoffs during the first six games in the series. The faceoff number jumps to 62.2% at home. Seattle is 0-for-6 on the power play in the first three road games in the series.

Seattle was third among Western Conference teams with 26 road wins during the regular season. The 22 home wins by Dallas in the regular season were tied for sixth among teams in the Western Conference.

  • There have been at least three combined goals scored in 10 different periods in the series, including each of the three periods in Game 6.
  • The total has gone over in five of the last six times Seattle has played in Dallas.
  • Dallas is 43-25-10 this season as a favorite with Seattle 24-30-4 at the underdog.
  • The Kraken are 30-18 against the spread on the road. Dallas has covered in just 22 of the 47 games at home.
  • The team scoring first has won each of the last five games.
  • The road team has already won twice in the series.

Dallas is priced at -210 with Seattle at +175 for Game 6. The total is set at 6 even though the teams have combined for at least seven goals in five of the first six games in the series.
