Accolades To Be Awarded

After the Stanley Cup, there is a lot more hardware to be dished out. A total of 11 prestigious accolades will be awarded throughout the evening. However, the reveal for the General Manager of the Year will kick-off the draft opening night.

This Monday, five prime awards – the creme de la creme of the NHL honors – will be announced. They include the Hart Trophy, recognizing the most valuable player to his NHL team, as selected by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.

Finalists & Forecasts

Here’s a sneak peek at the finalists for each of these 2023 NHL Awards, the five major awards, along with some juicy forecasts or predictions for your betting pleasure.

Hart Trophy – MVP

  • Finalists: Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers), David Pastrnak (Boston Bruins), Matthew Tkachuk (Florida Panthers)
  • Forecast: This year, the race for the Hart Trophy seems like a one-horse race with Connor McDavid spearheading the competition. His spectacular season with the Oilers makes him a strong contender for his third Hart Trophy.

Despite an equally commendable NHL season by David Pastmak of the Boston Bruins and Matthew Tkachuk’s instrumental role in taking the Florida Panthers to the Stanley Cup Final, McDavid is poised to clinch the Hart Trophy. His remarkable season, accentuated by a league-leading 64 goals and 153 points, along with his exceptional leadership, sets him apart.

Vezina Trophy – Top Goaltender

  • Finalists: Connor Hellebuyck (Winnipeg Jets), Ilya Sorokin (New York Islanders), Linus Ullmark (Boston Bruins)
  • Forecast: The coveted Vezina Trophy, for the league’s best goalie, is up for grabs among three outstanding candidates this year.

Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins appears to have the edge after his unforgettable year that included a record 65 wins and 135 points.

James Norris Memorial Trophy – Top Defenseman

  • Finalists: Adam Fox (New York Rangers), Erik Karlsson (San Jose Sharks), Cale Makar (Colorado Avalanche)
  • Forecast: The contest for the Norris Trophy is hotly contested with previous winners among the finalists. Erik Karlsson’s stellar season, marked by his leading role in goals, assists, and points among all defensemen, puts him in prime position to snag the award.

Calder Memorial Trophy – Top Rookie

  • Finalists: Matty Beniers (Seattle Kraken), Owen Power (Buffalo Sabres), Stuart Skinner (Edmonton Oilers)
  • Forecast: The Calder Trophy’s race is set to be an intriguing contest. Matty Beniers, having led all rookies with 57 points and tied for the most goals, is our pick to take home the award.

Ted Lindsay Award – MVP Voted By Fellow Players

  • Finalists: Erik Karlsson (San Jose Sharks), Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers), David Pastrnak (Boston Bruins)
  • Forecast: The Ted Lindsay Award, a unique honor voted by hockey players, could potentially follow the pattern of from sources. As a player-driven award, this one can be difficult to predict. However, it should be noted that the winner of the Hart Trophy has also won the Lindsay Award in each of the past four years.

Will the Trend Hold?

If that NHL betting trend of winning both 2023 NHL Awards becomes reality, we have to predict that McDavid will win it here. If the 28-year-old is indeed named the hockey league’s most valuable player, one can only assume that many players will deem him its most outstanding too.

And it’s hard to argue against that sentiment. McDavid helped push the Oilers into the second round of the playoffs while producing one of the best NHL regular-season stat lines in recent memory.

It’s not difficult to sense that, as Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs did last year, McDavid will pick up both the Hart Trophy and the Lindsay Award on Monday.
