NHL Betting Update: Best Teams Against The Puckline In 23-24

Underdogs Cashed 62% But Still No Profit!

Another sport, another path that is paved with danger for bettors. The NHL is no different than any other sport that uses a moneyline to determine a winner. There is clearly one side that is better than the other, but ultimately you still have to handicap each NHL game individually.

The focus of this column is on puck line betting, which clearly shows taking the +1.5 is the best way to go but still would put bettors in the red with 5.38 units lost. That’s the better of the two options because if you lay the -1.5 in an effort to get some plus money, your bankroll would be dried up like a Washington Capitals power play (-24.10 units). Let’s go through and reveal exactly who are the best NHL teams against the puck line.

Top Five Are Among The Best vs Puck Line

There isn’t much surprise when it comes to who are the best teams against the puck-line. The top five PL teams in the league are also among the best in the current NHL standings.

If you combine the PL records of the Boston Bruins (+5.31), New York Rangers (+6.35), Vancouver Canucks (+7.04), Colorado Avalanche (+7.36), and Winnipeg Jets (9.99) you would be 63-38 (.624) +36.04 units. The Bruins are the strongest on the road with a 7-4 PL record (+5.51 units). Only the New York Rangers are better (6.39 units) on the road.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

The Bruins are 4-2 against teams under .500. New York is just 7-7 as a PL favorite but 5.76 units of their profit has come as a favorite, meaning, don’t be afraid to lay the -1.5 with the Rangers. The Canucks are a team that has been reliable as a favorite (+5.93 units) and as PL dog (+1.12 units).

The Avs are 11-8 as a favorite (6.93 units), while the Winnipeg Jets top the list of the most reliable ATS teams with 9.99 units won, although that has all come as a favorite (+10.34 units). As an underdog, the Jets are 6-3 but are slightly in the red overall (-0.35 units). We continue our analysis of the best NHL teams against the puck line by looking at the teams that are overlooked by bettors.

Flyers, Jackets, Senators Bubbling Under

Combined, Philadelphia, Columbus, and Ottawa are 25-29-5 straight-up, but these teams are close to making noise in their divisions if success against the puck line is an indication. Ottawa is 9-7 (1.47 units), Columbus (2.07 units), and Philadelphia (+5.06 units).

When these three NHL teams are PL underdogs, their overall record is 31-12 (+6.54 units), and as a road dog, this trio is an incredible 20-4 (+8.77 units). We know the teams who we should back, but there are teams to stay away from starting with the San Jose Sharks who have cost PL bettors 9.88 units followed by the Toronto Maple Leafs (-8.45 units) and New Jersey Devils (-8.08 units).

Let’s conclude our look at the best NHL teams against the puck line with a few trends that may be helpful heading into the second quarter of the season.

Road Teams Crushing Bookmakers

There is one angle that can’t be overlooked and that’s how well road teams have performed against the puckline, winning 17.04 units (176-140) while home teams have cost bettors 44.56 units this NHL season against the PL.

If road teams continue to stay in the positive, it will be the second straight winning season for the dogs where they’re a combined +26.52 units since 2022.

For bettors since 2018, the teams receiving the highest percentage of the money wagered have lost the public 192.25 units and 172.25 units when betting on teams receiving the highest ticket bet percentage. Hopefully, that will help when making your NHL picks moving forward.
