NHL Series Prices & Stanley Cup Futures
The Oilers’ odds improved in various other NHL markets too. Edmonton entered this series as the underdog to win, however, going into Tuesday’s pivotal puck drop in the Oil Capital of Canada, the Oilers are for the first time favored to win the series (see odds movement outlined below).
Moreover, the Oilers have moved ahead of the Flames in the odds to win the Stanley Cup. The Oilers are currently priced as the +800 bet to win the coveted Stanley Cup, while the Flames are priced as the +1000 bet.
Flames vs Oilers Game 4 Preview
The Calgary Flames topped the standings at the end of the season, clinching the Pacific Division title quite convincingly. As a result, they were also one of the top teams in the Western Conference and the league as a whole.
On the back of Calgary’s regular season output, therefore, Darryl Sutter’s side was tipped among the top favorites to win it all.
The Flames were forced to run the gamut in the Western Conference quarterfinals. To boot…the Dallas Stars jumped out to a 2-1 lead before the Flames rallied to level the series. Eventually, Calgary won in a thrilling Game 7.
Calgary carried the momentum into the conference semifinal, taking the convincing 9-6 win at the Saddledome in Game 1, however, since that electric start, the Flames seemed to have lost the plot.
Calgary was up 2-0 on the Oilers in game 2 before they fritted away the lead and lost 5-3. Sunday’s 4-1 loss was the first time that the Flames were thoroughly outplayed by the Oilers across all three periods.
Granted the Oilers opened the floodgates in a four-goal second period to down the Flames, but they seemed to have the upper-hand right from first puck drop.
Flames vs Oilers Prediction
Edmonton raised its level over the last two games to take the series lead. The Oilers have the momentum and, even, the backing of the oddsmakers too.
Considering the last two games, it’s impossible to dismiss Edmonton. The Oilers have undeniable flare, finesse, speed and they’ve captured the imagination of fans as a result. They’re proving to be tougher to beat than the Flames vs Oilers odds initially suggested.
Don’t forget, the Flames are the so-called “superior” team. They have the skills, talent and quality to ratchet up the intensity and turn this Battle of Alberta on its head. Thus, it may well be too soon to jump of their bandwagon.
