NHL Grand Salami Predictions: Ranking Games Based on Scoring Potential
From Lowest to Highest? Let’s Rank ‘Em
Lowest to Highest Totals Based on NHL Odds
The NHL has a packed Thursday night perfect for our NHL Grand Salami predictions. Thirteen games are on tap. Bettors looking to bet on the ‘over’ could have a paradox of choice given how more than half of the games could just do that. To help distinguish the games, let’s rank the 13 NHL matchups based on the oddsmakers’ lines.
Modestly Lined: Totals of 6.0
- 13. Islanders vs Blues
- 12. Stars vs Coyotes
- 11. Bruins vs Rangers
- 10. Ducks vs Canucks
These four games are expected to be the lowest-scoring of the evening. The Islanders-Blues are the only game with a total whose under is the juiced side as New York is allowing just 2.5 goals per game while St. Louis is scoring just 2.4 goals per game. The Ducks and Canucks have NHL betting percentages more toward the over. While Anaheim is struggling to score, both teams are allowing over four goals per game.
As for the Arizona Coyotes, they are the only team on this portion that allows over four goals per game. However, they did nearly shut down the Panthers and are allowing just 2.3 goals per game at home. The Stars have also had four of their five road games go under. The Bruins are also the NHL’s highest-scoring team, contributing 4.4 goals per game. But they are going against the Rangers, whose totals have gone under in seven of their 11 games.
Trending Under: Games at 6.5
- 9. Canadiens vs Jets
- 8. Kings vs Blackhawks
- 7. Predators vs Flames
Next in line are a trio of matchups lined at 6.5 but the total juiced slightly to the under. While we have it ranked this way, consider these games almost even in terms of their scoring potential. The Canadiens‘ and Jets’ games tend to go under this season. However, the over has cashed in four of their last five games in Winnipeg.
The Kings and Flames are two of the top-10 highest-scoring teams on this list both with goals-per-game averages of 3.5. They also allowed over three goals a game with the Kings bordering on four at 3.93. The latter has been one of the best teams to bet the over on as eight of their 12 games have gone over. The Blackhawks are a surprise team this season and their improved offense (3.2 goals per game) is a wildcard with these NHL Grand Salami predictions.
Holding Steady: Games at 6.5
- 6. Hurricanes vs Lightning
- 5. Capitals vs Red Wings
- 4. Golden Knights vs Senators
On the other half of the total-of-6.5 pie are these three games. With lines currently at a standstill, any or all of these games could swing our NHL Grand Salami predictions. The Hurricanes and Lightning are two elite teams who tend to play each other close. Some of their games feature action-packed exchanges while some become defensive (or goaltending) showcases. However, eight of their last 10 meetings have gone under.
Vegas visits Ottawa looking to shut down the potent Senators offense. Ottawa is averaging 3.67 goals per game and has scored five or more goals in three of their four home games. But the Golden Knights’ defense is otherworldly right now as they are the only NHL team allowing fewer than two goals a game: 1.73.
Going Over: 6.5 to 7
- 3. Kraken vs Wild
- 2. Panthers vs Sharks
- 1. Devils vs Oilers
The three potentially highest-scoring games of the evening are led by the Devils and Oilers. This matchup is the only one with a total set at seven. These teams combine to average 7.7 goals per game. Edmonton is coming off a seven-goal performance while the Devils have scored an average of six goals in their last two games. The total has also gone over in five of their last six games against each other.
It has been a contributing factor as to why 12 of their 21 combined games have gone over.
The Kraken and Wild could also feature plenty of scoring thanks to inconsistent goaltending. Seattle is infamous for having poor netminding while Minnesota has had ugly games from their goaltenders. The two are 31st and 25th in the NHL in save percentage. It has been a contributing factor as to why 12 of their 21 combined games have gone over.
