The Washington Capitals gave their home fans at Capital One Arena one solid sendoff with a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders, who were looking to get closer to wrapping up a Wild Card berth with a victory. The Caps won their home finale without the services of star forwards Alex Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie, who both will most likely miss the rest of the season with injuries. The Islanders are one point ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final Wild Card spot in the East. They will wrap up their regular season on Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Dallas Stars pulled themselves one step closer to clinching Home-Ice Advantage in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs along with a tie for the Central Division lead on Monday night with a 6-1 demolishing of the Detroit Red Wings.

Rookie winger Egor Afanasyev scored his first career National Hockey League goal for Nashville, along with Zach Sanford, who picked up his first goal of this season.
The Preds have won three of their last four games and now with the Flames out of the way, Nashville is three points behind the Winnipeg Jets for that final slot in the playoffs with two games remaining, Thursday at home against the Minnesota Wild and their finale hosting the Colorado Avalanche on Friday.
