NHL NIGHT IN REVIEW: Weekend of February 11th & 12th, 2023
While the National Football League concluded it’s season on Sunday with Super Bowl LVII, The National Hockey League was packed with action over the weekend with 14 games on Saturday and four on Sunday, NHL Weekend games recap saw plenty of interesting results for bettors. Let’s take a look at this weekend’s NHL scores games in review.
SATURDAY GAMES
The Calgary Flames rebounded from an early two-goal deficit to beat the Buffalo Sabres on the road as short favorites, coming back with seven unanswered goals to win 7-2. Rookie winger Jakob Pelletier scored his first career National Hockey League goal to open the scoring for Calgary. Dillon Dube scored a goal and chipped in three assists while veteran Tyler Toffoli scored two goals along with an assist, all in the final period of play. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom battled back to earn the victory, making 21 saves on 23 shots faced.
The Tampa Bay Lightning pick up their first victory as road underdogs this season, beating the Dallas Stars on Saturday afternoon 3-1 in front of a nationally televised audience. Bolts Forward Anthony Cirelli scored two goals while Brandon Hagel hammered home the empty netter for insurance purposes with 0.2 seconds left in the game for the two-goal margin. With the loss, Dallas has now lost four of their last six games, while Tampa Bay ended a seven-game losing streak as a road underdog and also snapping a three-game overall losing streak on the road. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made 28 saves on 29 shots faced for his 25th victory on the season.
The Minnesota Wild snap a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 shootout win at home over the New Jersey Devils. Forward Joel Eriksson-Ek scored his 20th goal of the year on the power-play to open scoring for Minnesota. Devils forward Tomáš Tatar scored both regulation goals for New Jersey in the second period, bringing his total on the season to twelve goals. Winger Ryan Hartman was an assist away from the “Gordie Howe Hat-Trick” as he scored the game-tying goal early in the third, before getting tossed out for fighting and a game misconduct later in the action. Goaltender Filip Gustavsson picked up his 12th win on the season, making 27 saves on 29 shots faced in regulation and overtime, along with stopping both Devils shots in the shootout. New Jersey has now gone past regulation in seven of their last eight contests.
The Washington Capitals head up to the TD Garden in Boston and hand the hot Bruins just their second home regulation loss this season, beating the B’s in a 2-1 matinee affair on Saturday. Caps goalie Darcy Kuemper was sensational, making 27 saves on 28 shots faced for his 16th win on the season and first career win in eight games against Boston. Forwards Nicklas Backstrom and Garnet Hathaway scored for Washington, while Nick Foligno scored his eighth goal of the season as the lone tally for the Bruins, who now have lost four of their last five games, easily their toughest stretch to date.
SUNDAY GAMES
The Vegas Golden Knights blowout their division foes, the Anaheim Ducks, 7-2 in a Sunday home matinee showdown. Forwards Phil Kessel, Mike Amadio, Paul Cotter and Jack Eichel all scored, while goaltender Adin Hill made 23 saves on 25 shots faced for his twelfth victory of the season, filling in as starter while Logan Thompson is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury. Anaheim has now lost three of their last four games overall since returning from the All-Star Break.
It was a rough Sunday for Philadelphia Sports fans, starting with the Flyers losing a 4-3 home afternoon decision as short underdogs against the Seattle Kraken, who snapped a brief three-game losing skid. Winger Jaden Schwartz scored twice while Alexander Wennberg chipped in two assists and Jordan Eberle scored a goal and added an assist. Goalie Philipp Grubauer made just 15 saves on 18 shots faced to pick up the win, his sixth of the season.

- The Montreal Canadiens sweep their Super Bowl weekend homestand, first beating the New York Islanders in a 4-3 overtime win as +185 underdogs, then crushing the Edmonton Oilers 6-2 on Sunday as +230 home dogs. Rookie defenseman Justin Barron scored his first career NHL goal on Saturday, while another rookie blue-liner, Jordan Harris, scored two goals on Sunday.
- Forward Nathan MacKinnon scored twice on Saturday as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Florida Panthers by a final of 5-3. With the victory, Colorado has now won eight of their last eleven games overall.
- Ryan O’Reilly scored just one minute into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 6-5 overtime victory over the Arizona Coyotes as -200 home favorites. Calle Rosen scored twice for the Blues while forward Clayton Keller scored twice for the Coyotes, who made defenseman Jakob Chychrun a healthy scratch before the game, as he is rumored to be a big trade piece that a few Western Conference clubs are looking to make a deal for in the coming days.
