NHL Wednesday Recap and Scores: January 25th, 2023

It was a short slate of action in National Hockey League with just five games on the card, NHL Wednesday recap and scores saw a lot of tight scoring games that went into overtime with four of the five games going Under the total for bettors. Let’s take a look at last night’s NHL games scores in review.

Results: TOR wins 3-2 in OT
NHL Over/Under: 6 Under -120, NYR +130/TOR -160

Forward Tim Liljegren scored the tying goal late in Regulation and had the primary assist on Mitch Marner’s game-winning goal 19 seconds into overtime as the Toronto Maple Leafs comeback to beat the New York Rangers 3-2 as -160 home favorites.

Defenseman Filip Chytil scored both goals for New York while Igor Shesterkin made 31 saves on 34 shots faced in the losing effort. This is just the second victory for the Maple Leafs over the Rangers in the last seven meetings.

Results: OTT wins 2-1
NHL Over/Under: 6 Under -105, NYI +110/OTT -130

Goaltenders Cam Talbot and Anton Forsberg combined to make 35 saves on 36 shots as the Ottawa Senators hold off the New York Islanders 2-1 as short home favorites, with the Under easily cashing for bettors.

Veteran forward Claude Giroux scored his 16th goal of the year and added an assist on Shane Pinto’s goal early to open the scoring. Talbot left the game early in the second period with a lower body injury.

Centerman Brock Nelson scored the lone tally for the Islanders while Semyon Varlamov made 36 saves on 38 shots faced. With the win, Ottawa snapped a five-game losing streak overall and picked up just their second win over the Islanders in the last eleven head-to-head meetings.

Results: CAR wins 3-2 in OT
NHL Over/Under: 6 Under -120, CAR -115/DAL -105

The Carolina Hurricanes picked up a 3-2 overtime win against the Dallas Stars on the road. Forward Marty Necas scored the game-winner just over 90 seconds into the extra frame.

Sebastian Aho scored to open the contest for Carolina. It’s his 17th goal of the year and 200th career goal for the 25-year old Finnish native. Jason Robertson scored his 32nd goal of the season for Dallas, who have now lost back-to-back games past Regulation.

Carolina extends their winning streak to three games and their point streak to six games, winning five and picking up a point in an overtime loss.

Other Notes Around The League
  • Kent Johnson scores in overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 3-2 road win over the Edmonton Oilers as massive +315 underdogs. Winger Zach Hyman scored his 25th goal of the season for Edmonton as superstar Connor McDavid picked his 49th assist, tying him with Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov and San Jose’s Erik Karlsson for the league lead in that category. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for the Oilers, while Columbus, the worst team in the NHL Eastern Conference Standings picks up just their second victory on the road since December 4th. Goaltender Joonas Korpisalo made 34 saves on 36 shots faced to earn his eighth victory of the year for the Blue Jackets
  • Forward Oliver Bjorkstrand scored two goals and Eeli Tolvanen scored his sixth goal in 13 games since joining Seattle as the Kraken beat the Vancouver Canucks 6-1 for the only Over ticket to cash on the night. Centerman Jared McCann scored his 23rd goal of the year and added a pair of assists while goalie Martin Jones made 19 saves for the victory
