Oilers vs Knights Odds, Game 3 Preview

Oilers even the series with a dominant performance in Vegas; Dog 8-3 Last 11 meetings

Oilers vs. Knights odds show Edmonton as a definitive -180 home favorite, with the total opening at seven goals (the over juiced to -115). Early wagering has backed the Oilers after the number opened at -170 at a few of our monitored sportsbooks. About 75% of the early money has pushed that number up, with bettors realizing this will be an uphill climb for the Golden Knights despite the 1-1 stalemate. Edmonton has won five of their last seven meetings, while the under is 4-1-1 in their previous six meetings at Rogers Place. Game 3 puck drops at 8:30 pm ET.

Vegas Needs To Play Smarter Hockey

The NHL standings may say that the Golden Knights are the Pacific Division champion, but the Edmonton Oilers have been flexing their muscles for the last two months before falling short of the division crown. We wrote about how the least penalized team in the National Hockey League needed to not only control the pace of play, or at least stay even, but they also need to limit the Edmonton Oilers’ power play chances while finding success on the penalty kill. Bruce Cassidy has managed to play even five-on-five, but the latter has destroyed Vegas.

The Knights could take Game 1 because they stayed even in the power play goal department, but we said that even three extra-man chances were too many or at least the minimum. If that was the standard, then the six power-play chances that led to three goals were a formula to send VGK home for the Summer. The numbers say that this may be a spot where Vegas bounces back.

In games after scoring two goals or less, Vegas has gone on to win 8 of their last 10 in that spot. Also, games after allowing five goals or more, the Knights are 10-2. The numbers may indicate that the Knights are the play tonight, but our game-two eyes see a team that must be perfect to win. We continue our Oilers vs. Knights odds preview with a look at Edmonton.

Have The Oilers Won The Mental Battle?

It’s easy to look at NHL scores and odds and get a feel for how the bookmakers think a particular game will go, but astute hockey bettors know there is also a breaking point mentally. Watching the Oilers’ Evander Kane give Keegan Kolesar a beat down while face-down on the ice in game two seems like that was it for Vegas. They were thoroughly beaten at home, 5-1, and their enforcer was handed a clear message.

The Oilers let Vegas know they were better and more challenging. It makes Knight’s fans wish for the days of Ryan Reaves, who would have never let that happen, but VGK brass decided it was time to move on. This makes us wonder what the Knights have left except to play a brilliant defensive hockey game.

The Knights have a couple of things going for them. First, they have matched up well with the league’s top offense, only getting outshot 36-31 in game two, primarily due to the Oilers’ three more power play chances. Second, they have been good at winning draws, after 52.3% of them going the Knights’ way in game two.

If the Knights are even or better in the power play goals department, they have a chance to win Game 3. The problem is very few teams have been able to take that advantage away from Jay Woodcroft’s team. Let’s continue our Oilers vs. Knights odds preview by giving your our official Game 3 selection.

Going With Knights But Getting Help

This comes down to trusting Bruce Cassidy. History tells us that Cassidy will watch the game two films and have his Knights better prepared. This series will always be about discipline and slowing down the Oilers’ forwards before they get in the offensive zone. We can’t go into this with a definite Knights bet, but after being embarrassed at home, we would think that Vegas would come out with fire in their eyes. Take the Knights, but let’s grab some of that puck line (+1.5 -160) just to be sure. That does it for our Knights vs. Oilers odds preview, we wish you all the best with your Game 3 wagers.
