Storm Subsiding in Carolina?

The Carolina Hurricanes don’t really seem to have any answers for the three straight losses to open this Eastern Conference Finals after dropping Game 3 in a 1-0 affair, getting blanked out by goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, who made 32 saves in the contest for the shutout.

The lack of scoring that many questioned to be an issue heading into the postseason has finally surfaced in this round, with only three goals scored in the last three contests.

Goalie Frederik Andersen has kept the Hurricanes alive in his last two starts, but even with the 33-year old Danish netminder going 5-2 with a 1.58 goals-against average and a .937% save percentage in his last eight starts, their run will come to a close soon if the offense in front of him continues to fail with the chances given.

Florida Flying High

The Florida Panthers are now just one win away from the Stanley Cup Final when just eight weeks ago, many hockey experts didn’t see Paul Maurice’s squad even qualifying for one of the two final Wild Card berths in the Eastern Conference to reach the postseason.

Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been playing tremendous hockey, stopping 110 of the last 111 shots faced, yielding just three goals in the last 14 periods combined to give this club the much needed defensive boost they have been searching for all season long.

Add into the mix the improved play from blueliners Brandon Montour and Radko Gudas along with veteran grinders like Marc Staal, who at 38 years of age is still backchecking and blocking shots like he was in his prime, this Panthers club has the momentum on their side as they look to keep the Eastern Conference title in the Sunshine State after three years of their rivals, (the Tampa Bay Lightning) winning the Prince of Wales trophy. Florida just needs one more quality effort leading to a victory to make that distant dream a few weeks ago, a very current reality right now.

Panthers vs Hurricanes Betting Odds

Sportsbooks are giving the visiting Carolina Hurricanes even odds to win, with the hosting Florida Panthers on Wednesday night with this contest price in the pick’em range of -110.

This is the eleventh game this postseason where Carolina has been favored or at the pick’em price, with the Hurricanes winning six of their last ten games in that role. For Florida, it’s their 12th game of the postseason as an underdog or at a pick’em price. In the last eleven contests for the Panthers, nine of the victories have come as underdogs, with the lone loss coming in Game Four of the series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where Florida was lined at a pick’em price of -110 and the win on Monday saw the Panthers close at -110 as well.

The total for this contest is set at 5.5 goals shaded slightly to the Over around the pick’em range between -110 to -120. Florida has played in eight consecutive games Under the total while Carolina had been on a 7-2 run to the Over, before going Under in the Game Five elimination win over the New Jersey Devils and all three of the games in this current series going Under the total, with a 1-0 final in Game Three.
