Senators vs Panthers Betting Trends
The Ottawa Senators are 39-38 against the puck line (ATS), but just 14-21-2 away from home. Most of Ottawa’s games have trended toward the over, as the Senators are 40-34-3 against the over/under. Meanwhile, the Florida Panthers are 38-40 ATS, including just 11-26 at home. As for the over/under, Florida is just 28-46-4.
Remember these betting trends when assessing the Senators vs Panthers lines.
Little to Gain for Sens
All that’s left for Ottawa is to play spoiler. At 34-39-4 (72 points), the Senators have already been eliminated from playoff contention in the Eastern Conference.
Ottawa snapped its three-game losing streak with a 3-2 overtime win over Washington on Sunday. Defenseman Jake Sanderson scored the game-winner for the Senators, who cashed in as +120 underdogs.
While Ottawa is 40-34-3 against the over/under, the Senators have gone under the total in five of the last six games. Keep that in mind when analyzing the Senators vs Panthers lines.
Goaltending has been an issue for most of this season, with Joonas Korpisalo and Anton Forsberg combining for an underwhelming 3.31 goals against average (GAA). As a team, the Senators rank 27th in GAA (3.48) and dead last in save percentage (SV%) (.886).
Brady Tkachuk is Ottawa’s top goal scorer (34), while Tim Stutzle leads the team in points (70).
Florida Streaking Toward Playoffs
The Panthers (102 points) have already clinched a playoff spot, one of four teams in the East to surpass 100 points. Last year’s Stanley Cup runner-up is fourth in the NHL playoffs bracket with four regular-season games remaining,
The Panthers went 1-3 on their recent four-game road trip, which culminated in a 3-2 overtime loss to Boston on Saturday as a +100 underdog.
Although the Panthers are 22-13-2 at Amerant Bank Arena, they’ve been quite unreliable for bettors. The Panthers’ 11-26 record ATS at home is among the worst in the NHL, ahead of only New Jersey (8-30).
Bettors have found more value in betting the total. The Panthers have gone under the total in four of their last six games to bring its season rate to 62.1%. A big reason for that is goaltender Anthony Stolarz, who leads the NHL with a 2.12 GAA and a .923 SV%. The Panthers also have a capable sidekick in Sergei Bobrovsky, who has started the last two games and owns a 2.43 goals against average and five shutouts.
Sam Reinhart is Florida’s top scorer, second in the NHL with 53 goals. Carter Verhaeghe is second on the team with 33 goals.
Handicapping the Game
Florida has already beaten Ottawa three times this season, including a 6-0 victory last Thursday. Six different Panthers scored, while Bobrovsky made 30 saves for the shutout. Overall, the Panthers have outscored the Senators 14-2.
Oddsmakers are understandably bullish on the Panthers, pricing them +350 to win the East and +700 to win the Stanley Cup. Only the Hurricanes are bigger favorites (+650) for the Stanley Cup.
Ottawa has already been eliminated from playoff contention and could be without its leading scorer Stutzle, who is questionable for Tuesday with an upper-body injury. That does not bode well for the Senators.
