The Vegas Golden Knights are built to play physical hockey based around a strong forechecking game, much like the Florida Panthers. They also have a solid defensive scheme that proved to be potent enough to stop some top-tier offenses like the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars in the previous two rounds of action.
Vegas will look to keep Florida to the perimeter, hoping to diminish their shot quality, and also looking to create odd-man rushes the other way thanks to their shot blocking ability, led by veteran defenseman Alec Martinez, who has 44 blocked shots along with fellow blue-liners Alex Pietrangelo with 42 and Brayden McNabb with 39, all listed in order of top three rankings during the NHL Postseason.

(Regular Season: 81 GP, 42 Goals, 31 Assists, 73 Pts)
– Aleksander Barkov: 4 Goals, 10 Assists, 14 Points, 42 SOG
(Regular Season: 68 GP, 23 Goals, 55 Assists, 78 Pts)
– Sergei Bobrovsky: 14 GP (13 starts) 11-2, 2.21 G.A.A; .935 Sv%
(Regular Season: 50 GP (49 starts) 24-20-3, 3.07 Goals-Against; .901% Save Percentage with one shutout)
Florida, much like Vegas, relies heavily on their forecheck game and low cycle game to generate offensive chances. They have been able to bully their three previous opponents, especially when battling for loose pucks in the corners and along the boards, but now they have met their match in a larger and more talented Golden Knights club, who will have no qualms playing the style that Paul Maurice ushered in over this past year, after eschewing the High-Speed Offensive approached used by previous bench bosses Joel Quenneville and Andrew Brunette.
Defensively, Florida has some holes on paper, but when you’ve had guys like defenseman Radko Gudas and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky playing the best hockey of their professional lives, you have to adjust accordingly and not take this team for granted. The Panthers didn’t just stumble into the Final and they will certainly take the fight to Vegas throughout this series.
