Will Boston Break the Record? The Bruins’ Regular Season Points Odds
Boston Must Get Eight Points in Five Games

Odds Lean on Boston Going Over 132 Points
While the rest of the NHL fight for playoff positions, the Boston Bruins have their own chase: The single-season points record of 133 points. Boston currently has 125 points and needs at least eight points to break the mark set by the Montreal Canadiens way back in 1976-77. It’s a close call but the Bruins’ regular season points odds slightly favor them to do it (-120).
Boston’s Remaining Opponents
Boston stands a tier above everyone in the NHL standings 2023. Its 125 points are 16 ahead of second place, Carolina. The NHL betting lines should also favor Boston in most if not all of its final five games hence how they break the single-season points record:
- vs Toronto Maple Leafs, Apr. 6 (Thursday)
- vs New Jersey Devils, Apr. 8 (Saturday)
- at Philadelphia Flyers, Apr. 9 (Sunday)
- vs Washington Capitals, Apr. 11 (Tuesday)
- at Montreal Canadiens, Apr. 13 (Thursday)
Boston is 9-2-0 against these teams with only Toronto and Washington having won over it. The Bruins need to earn at least a point in their two home games versus Toronto and New Jersey. If they lose both games in regulation, they will fall short of 132 points.
The team is 2-0 against the Devils so far this season and 2-1 against the Maple Leafs. Boston played these teams mostly on their ice. The Bruins’ only home game against the two was a 4-3 win over Toronto on January 14. The Bruins have the NHL’s best home record at 31-4-3. However, their last few home games have been too close.
The Bruins needed overtime to beat the Blue Jackets as -450 favorites. Prior to that, Boston lost to the Predators as a -310 favorite. And prior to that, three of its last four wins have been only by one goal. So it may be a mistake to underestimate the Bruins’ final three opponents even if they are all out of the playoffs.
Hurtin’ Bruins: Can Boston Succeed Short-Handed?
Injuries can be partly to blame as Boston is without forward Taylor Hall and defenseman Derek Forbort. Meanwhile, center Patrice Bergeron is dealing with an upper-body injury while the team also rests David Krejci and star defenseman Charlie McAvoy.
As monumental as it would be to break the single-season points record, the Bruins would rather keep their players healthy for a Stanley Cup run. It will be unpopular with fans and ‘over ‘bettors for the Bruins’ regular season points odds, but this team may just continue to sit out Bergeron, Krejci, and McAvoy.
But fear not. Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman are healthy and will continue to protect the net. Ullmark is the runaway favorite to win the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goaltender. But Swayman has been just as good if not better lately. He’s posted a 14-3-1 record this 2023 with a 93.3 save percentage (SV%) and four shutouts.
Spoilers: Which Teams are Best-Equipped to Beat Boston?
Beating Ullmark or Swayman will always be a tough task. Even when the two have an off night, Boston still has the offense to cover up their mistakes. The Bruins average 3.66 goals per game, which is second only to the Oilers this season. A team will have to score four or more goals and/or find a way to neutralize Boston’s scorers to win.
Of course, New Jersey and Toronto should have the best odds to disrupt the Bruins’ regular season points odds. The Devils have yet to beat Boston but are 27-8-4 on the road while averaging 3.74 goals per game. Goaltender Vitek Vanecek has also played well in two appearances against Boston, stopping 29 of the 31 shots he’s faced.
As for Toronto, the Leafs are “okay” on the road: 20-13-4 with a +12 goal differential. Ilya Samsonov will need to better in goal as his 7-7-1 road record with a 90 percent SV% won’t cut it. Toronto has also not scored more than three goals in four of its last five road games. So Samsonov will either have to stand on his head or the Maple Leafs will need to explode offensively to beat Boston.
