It seems that although the tournament didn’t go exactly as expected, the top four teams for the Paris Olympics 2024 predictions of a gold medal, were the last four teams remaining. USA and France have locked up the gold medal opportunity, but now it’s time to see who will join them on the podium in Paris.

Australia Loses to Tournament Favorites

Australia’s bid for Olympic gold ended with a 21-point loss to the dominant US team. Despite the disappointing result, the Opals have consistently been a force in women’s basketball, often challenging the Americans. They were defeated in the first round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by the eventual gold medal winning Team USA as well.

Led by veteran Lauren Jackson, the Opals have faced numerous losses against the US in major international competitions. While the team has shown they can compete with the best, the Americans’ dominance has proven difficult to overcome.

The physicality and skill disparity between the two teams were evident throughout the game. The US’s superior size and athleticism overwhelmed the Australian squad.

While the loss is undoubtedly disappointing, the Opals remain a formidable force in women’s basketball. With a young and talented roster, Australia will have a chance to still grab a medal in the bronze medal match.

Belgium Narrowly Misses Chance At Gold

France secured their spot in the Olympic gold medal game with a dramatic 82-75 overtime victory over Belgium. The loss for Belgium gives them one last opportunity at grabbing an Olympic medal.

Former UConn star Gabby Williams was instrumental in France’s victory, scoring nine of her 18 points in overtime. Her clutch performance proved decisive as France overcame a 15-point deficit to force extra time.

France was led by a balanced scoring attack of Gabby Williams (18 points), Valeriane Ayayi (17 points), Iliana Rupert (15 points), and Janelle Salaun (10 points).

Belgium got a huge game from Emma Messeman (19 points, 14 rebounds). They also got scoring help from the likes of Kyara Linskens (15 points), Elise Ramette (13 points), and Julie Vanloo (11 points).

Led by Meesseman’s double-double, Belgium mounted a strong challenge, including leading for significant portions of the game. However, France’s defense and clutch shooting proved to be the difference.

These teams are quite evenly matched, and the Women’s Bronze Medal Basketball Odds indicate it should be a close game. That being said, Belgium has had a very strong tournament so far and we don’t see that changing in the bronze medal game. We think Belgium will complete the slight upset and grab a medal for their country.
