The host nation, France, seeks to defend its gold medal from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Meanwhile, Poland, after overcoming a tough challenge from the United States, looks to prove why they are ranked the number one men’s volleyball team in the world.
The gold medal match is scheduled for Sunday, with the bronze medal contest taking place on Saturday. If victorious, France would become only the third nation to defend the Olympic men’s volleyball title. This feat hasn’t been accomplished since the United States did so in 1984 and 1988.
France vs Poland: Olympic Volleyball Gold Medal Showdown
France dominated Italy with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 victory. Trevor Clevenot led France with 17 points, including 15 kills and two blocks.
Poland’s journey to the final has been remarkable. After failing to advance past the quarterfinals in the last five Olympics, they broke through and secured their first Olympic gold medal match appearance in 48 years.
These two teams recently met in the semifinals of the Volleyball Nations League, where France emerged victorious. Still, the Paris Olympics 2024 odds and the Men’s Olympic Volleyball final odds think that the surprise Polish powerhouse has a good chance of taking home the gold medal.
- The odds currently sit at Poland -140 and France +110. For the bronze medal match Team USA and Team Italy are currently set at a pick’em, both -115 to win the bronze.

Team Poland Beats USA
Veteran libero Pawel Zatorski battled pain, and a potential injury, yet the Poles secured a historic gold medal opportunity. Zatorski went down clutching his left hand midway through the third set, with the Americans leading 13-9. However, the determined Polish player returned to the court after a tense few minutes, inspiring a legendary comeback.
Despite Zatorski’s struggles and missing key players, Poland refused to surrender. They rallied from a 20-18 deficit in the fourth set, even needing two set points to force a fifth. This ignited the predominantly Polish crowd at the South Paris Arena, their cheers echoing throughout the stadium.
Led by Cuban-born outside hitter Wilfredo León’s offensive prowess, Poland seized control early in the fifth set. Team USA struggled to keep pace and fell short despite a service ace by Max Holt that briefly brought them within 11-10. León’s final spike sealed the deal, sending the Polish team into a celebratory frenzy.
After an up-and-down tournament, the world number one ranked Polish team is set to complete their goal of a gold medal.
Easy Win For France
The semifinal game between France and Italy didn’t live up to the pre-match hype. The defending champions dominated, sweeping Italy in straight sets to secure a gold medal match spot.
Fueled by an electric home crowd, France overpowered Italy from the start. The French team displayed exceptional teamwork and offensive firepower, consistently pressuring their opponents.
Earvin Ngapeth and Barthelemy Chinenyeze led France in the opening set. Trevor Clevenot took charge in the second frame. France maintained momentum in the third set, neutralizing Italy’s star player, Alessandro Michieletto.
With this victory, France is close to making history. A gold medal win on home soil would solidify their volleyball dominance. Italy will now face the United States for the bronze medal, aiming to become the first country with seven Olympic medals in men’s volleyball.
France’s Home Crowd
France entering a gold medal game with their country cheering around them is not something to take lightly.
Although the Men’s Olympic Volleyball Final Odds and Olympic games predictions seem to be leaning towards a Polish win, France will have an energy behind them that isn’t quantifiable.
With Polish star Zatorski potentially still recovering from his injury in the semi-finals, it could be a perfect mix for a French upset. At +110, it seems like an OK value to take the home team to keep the gold on French soil.
