The USWNT have been resurgent under Emma Hayes and led by their attacking trio of Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson and Trinity Rodman. It’ll either be a record extending fifth gold for the USA or a fairytale ending for Marta in this Brazil vs USA women’s soccer gold medal match. Ahead of the action, we’ll take a closer look at the odds and team news.
Brazil vs USA Head-to-Head:
Team Brazil have struggled against the USA, with only three wins in 40 meetings. They last met in March’s CONCACAF Gold Cup Final, as the USA won 1-0 and Lindsey Horan scored the winning goal.
The USWNT are on a nine game unbeaten streak against Brazil. Brazil’s last win in this fixture was in the 2014 Brasilia tournament. This is the third Brazil vs USA women’s soccer gold medal match and the USA have won the previous two, in 2004 and 2008.
Shorthanded Brazil Still Believe
Brazil entered the Olympics as +1400 dark horses to win their first gold medal. After winning their first match of the tournament, against Nigeria, Brazil dropped their next two games. After losing 2-1 to Japan, Marta got sent off in the group finale against Spain. With ten players, Brazil fell 2-0 and were anxiously awaiting other results to see if they’d advance to the knockout stage.
As the second-ranked third place team, Brazil snuck into the knockout stage but Marta had to serve a two game suspension. Brazil were +420 underdogs for their Quarter-Final match against France but Gabi Portilho scored the game’s only goal. In the Semifinal clash versus 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup champions Spain, Brazil came out guns blazing.
Priscila put pressure on Spain keeper Cata Coll, whose sixth minute clearance deflected off of Priscila and Spain defender Irene Paredes into the back of Spain’s net. Brazil went up 3-0, with goals from Portilho and Adriana. Spain put up a late fight but Kerolin scored the dagger in Brazil’s 4-2 victory.
In some unfortunate Olympic games news, Brazil’s Antonia and Tamires are out. Meanwhile, Rafaelle Souza is a doubt and Jhennifer has missed the last few games. Lauren also went off injured against Spain and Brazil project to be shorthanded for this match.
Regardless, they’ve played with intensity no matter who’s been available and are 10-2-3 in 2024.

Girma Unsung Hero for USA
USA’s frontline has gotten a lot of credit throughout their Olympic games women’s soccer schedule but Naomi Girma has been an unsung hero. The center back has been one of the best players in the tournament, if not the best. She’s spearheaded a USA defense that has only conceded two goals through five matches and has kept successive shutouts in the knockout stage.
Following a 0-0 normal time draw against Japan in the Quarter-Finals, Trinity Rodman scored a left footed winner in extra time. USA once again found a winner in extra time in the Semis, when Sophia Smith scored the game’s only goal against Germany. Rodman, Smith and Mallory Swanson have all scored three goals at the Olympics.
Getting defensive midfielder Sam Coffey and defender Tierna Davidson back for the Semifinal was big. Now, the USA are at full strength for Saturday’s gold medal game and have three days of rest, instead of two.
Plenty of Paris Olympics 2024 predictions had the USA winning gold and they entered the tournament as +170 favorites. Coach Emma Hayes has revived this USA team and they look confident heading into the final.
Brazil vs USA women’s soccer gold: Match Analysis & Odds
USA are even money favorites for Saturday’s gold medal match and their last two matches have gone into extra time. Brazil, despite never winning gold, can’t be counted out. Marta makes them a much more dangerous team and they’ve won their last two matches as +420 and +620 underdogs.
Here, the Brazil vs USA women’s soccer gold medal match odds list Brazil at +280. A draw, which would mean a third straight extra time match for the USA, shows +220 odds.
Brazil +0.5 is at -130 odds as they’ll try to catch the USA off guard with their energy and pressure. In what’s expected to be a low scoring match, under 2.5 goals sit at -175 odds and a no on both teams to score is at -145. USA have kept three shutouts in their last four games against Brazil and they’ll look to spoil Marta’s send off.
