Spain Going For First Women’s Soccer Medal
Spain vs Germany Women's Soccer Bronze Medal Match Odds, Preview

Germany Flawless in Medal Matches
With two of their key players out, Germany still put up a fight against the USA in the Semifinal. The Germans lost 1-0 in extra time and now take on Spain in the bronze medal match on Friday.

Spain put in a subpar effort in the Semifinal and fell 4-2 to a Marta-less Brazil. Still, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup champions have an opportunity to win their first women’s soccer medal here.
Ahead of Friday’s Spain vs Germany women’s soccer bronze medal match, we’ll cover the Olympic odds and team news.
Spain vs Germany Head-to-Head
This Spain vs Germany women’s soccer bronze medal game is the first meeting between Spain and Germany in the Olympics. Spain have never beaten Germany and are 0-3-4 in this fixture all-time.
They last met in the Euro 2022 group stage, as Germany grabbed a 2-0 win with goals from Klara Buhl and Alexandra Popp.
Spain Outworked by Brazil
Spain coach Montse Tome made the bold call to leave Alexia Putellas out of the starting lineup of Tuesday’s Semifinal game against Brazil.
Within six minutes, Spain were down 1-0 due to an error from goalkeeper Cata Coll. Her clearance deflected off of Brazil’s Priscila and into Irene Paredes and went into the back of Spain’s net.
Brazil got another goal before halftime and Spain looked rattled. Spain’s defense looked out of sorts and their midfield couldn’t deal with Brazil’s physicality.
Ballon d’Or Feminin winner Aitana Bonmati failed to impose herself on the match and Tome waited 77 minutes to bring on Putellas, when Spain were down 3-0.
Salma Paralluelo managed to head in a ball to bring things back to 3-1 but La Roja quickly conceded on another botched clearance, which Duda Sampaio got on the end of and nutmegged Spain keeper Cata Coll.
Paralluelo was a lone bright spot, as she scored again but Spain fell 4-2. The warning signs were there for Spain, as they fell behind 2-0 in the Quarter-Final against Colombia. Spain did win all three group stage games but the short rest between games and physicality of other teams has gotten to them.
Plenty of Paris Olympic 2024 predictions had them winning gold, and they were one of the pre-tournament favorites. Still, they have a chance to medal here.

Germany Lament Absence of Key Attacking Players
Two of Germany’s biggest attacking threats, Lea Schuller and Alexandra Popp, missed the 1-0 Semifinal loss to the USA. Germany managed to create some good chances but were second best and conceded in extra time.
In unfortunate Olympic games news, Schuller had inflammation in a tendon in her knee, while Popp fell ill. Schuller is Germany’s leading scorer at Paris 2024, with three goals, and it’s unlikely she returns for the bronze medal match.
- Popp, on the other hand, could be in contention and she’s the only Olympic medalist on this German roster.
Germany won gold in 2016 and they won bronze in 2000, 2004 and 2008. They’re 4-0 in Olympic medal matches and have outscored their opponents 7-1 in those games.
Along with Schuller, and potentially Popp, Germany may be missing defender Marina Hegering and forward Nicole Anyomi. The duo went off injured in the match against the USA. Both of Germany’s losses in the tournament have been against the USA.
In the Quarter-Finals, Germany knocked out Tokyo 2020 gold medalists Canada in penalties following a scoreless draw. No matter the result, coach Horst Hrubesch will retire following the match.
Spain vs Germany Match Analysis & Odds
Spain are even money favorites for this Spain vs Germany women’s soccer bronze medal match but it’s hard to be confident in them given their last two performances.
Although Germany haven’t scored in either of their last two games, which both went into extra time, they have conceded just one goal in their last four hours of play. Getting Popp back would be a big boost and bettors should stay on top of updates.
Germany are +240 underdogs, while we find a draw at +280 odds. Despite their last two matches, betting on Spain to find the net is one of the best soccer bets today. They’ve done it in their last 23 games.
Still, we do think Germany have a good shot here and Germany +0.5 sits at -130 odds. Third place games can often be high scoring affairs and over 2.5 goals sit at -145 odds for Friday’s bronze medal decider.
