Spain’s Olympic women’s soccer debut has gone according to plan so far. La Roja won all three of their group games to finish in first place in Group C. In the Quarter-Finals, they take on Group A’s third-placed team, Colombia.

Colombia reached the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Quarter-Finals and will be looking to cause problems for the defending World Cup champions. However, Colombia all-time leading scorer Catalina Usme is an injury doubt. That said, we’ll go through the Spain vs Colombia Olympic soccer news and odds.

Spain: Remarkably Consistent

Spain got through a difficult Olympics Group C unscathed. La Roja fell behind 1-0 in their opener to Japan, but goals from Aitana Bonmati and Mariona Caldentey completed the 2-1 comeback. In their second match, Alexia Putellas scored a late goal to sink Nigeria 1-0.

With Spain’s Quarter-Final status confirmed, coach Montse Tome rested some of her star players in the group stage finale against Brazil. Still, Spain managed to defeat Brazil, who went down to nine players at one point, 2-0.

Spain has been remarkably consistent since their shocking 4-0 loss to Japan in the Women’s World Cup group stage finale. They showed resilience to rally and win their first Women’s World Cup and are going for their first gold medal. Spain have scored in 21 straight games and are 19-2 during that time.

They’ve completely dominated possession of the ball in each of their three games so far, and their midfield of Bonmati, Putellas, and Patri or Teresa Abelleira is the best in the world. In their second match, Colombia managed to get their first-ever Olympic win. They took down New Zealand 2-0 behind goals from Marcela Restrepo and Leicy Santos. Without star player Usme and Ramirez for the group stage finale, Colombia lost 1-0 to Canada on a late header.

While Ramirez should slot back into the starting lineup on Saturday, Usme’s status is unclear, and she appears to have a hip injury. Usme has scored more career goals for the national team than the rest of Colombia’s roster combined so it’d be a big loss if she can’t suit up.

Colombia has rarely been one of the recommended Olympic soccer picks, with a 1-1-7 record in the competition all-time.

Spain vs Colombia Analysis & Odds

• With Usme’s injury and their Olympic history, Colombia is +865 underdogs to win this Quarter-Final match in 90 minutes. The winner of this game will, at the very least, play for a bronze medal, and Spain is -340 favorites to reach the Semis.
