Spain vs Egypt Olympic Soccer: Group C Decider

Spain Need Draw to Clinch Group, Win Necessary for Egypt

2020 Silver Medalists Spain off to Quick Start

Through two matches, Spain are one of three teams to win both of their Olympic men’s soccer matches. Spain, who have already clinched a Quarter-Finals spot, would clinch Group C with a draw against Egypt on Tuesday. However, if Egypt are able to pull off an upset victory, they’ll advance as group leaders.

In the Group C decider, we’ll take a look at the Spain vs Egypt Olympic soccer odds and match facts.

Spain (2-0) vs Egypt (1-1-0)

Date & Time: Tuesday, July 30th, 9:00 a.m. ET
Location: Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux, Bordeaux, France

Spain vs Egypt Head-to-Head

This is the third Spain vs Egypt Olympic soccer match since the tournament became a U23 event. At Tokyo 2020, the two sides drew 0-0 in the group opener. Meanwhile, Spain defeated Egypt 2-0 at Barcelona 1992.

Spain: Qualified for Quarters

Spain, going for their first Olympic gold medal in men’s soccer since 1992, are off to a fast start. They got a narrow 2-1 win over Uzbekistan in their opener followed by a 3-1 victory over a 10-man Dominican Republic. With the two wins, Spain are in the Quarter-Finals. If Spain manage to get a draw or win here, they’ll likely play Paraguay or Mali in the Quarters.

In the match against Dominican Republic, Spain’s Fermiun Lopez opened up the scoring in the 24th minute. Dominican Republic equalized on a corner in the 38th minute but went down to ten men when Edison Azcona kicked Pau Cubarsi.

Spain dominated the second half and goals from Alex Baena and substitute Miguel Gutierrez secured a 3-1 win. Spain were -1000 pregame soccer betting favorites but failed to cover the 2.5-goal goal line.

So far, Spain have failed to cover the goal line in both of their games and have conceded in each. Still, they’re managing to get results and are one of the top contenders to win the gold medal. Coach Santi Denia has started the same lineup in both matches but he may make a few adjustments with a knockout stage berth already clinched.

Egypt: Could Still Advance With Loss

Egypt have seen less of the ball than their opponents in both of their Olympic matches so far, but that hasn’t stopped them from grabbing two clean sheets. Egypt, Japan and France remain the only three teams to not concede a goal so far. On Saturday, Egypt grabbed a 1-0 victory against Uzbekistan, which marked a giant step toward the knockout stage.

The Pharaohs’ first goal of the tournament was rather bizarre. Uzbekistan’s goalie misjudged Osama Faisal’s shot, which ending up hitting the post and Uzbekistan defender Muhammadkodir Hamraliev cleared the ball off of Egypt’s Ahmed Koka and into the net.

Both teams had chances but Egypt were able to hold on for their first win of the tournament. In their first game, they managed to pick up a scoreless draw against the Dominican Republic. This match represents a much bigger test for Egypt than their first two matches.

Mohamed Elneny’s experience is crucial in the middle of the park for the Pharaohs. Notably, Egypt have reached the Quarter-Finals in three of their last four Olympic appearances. That makes them one of the more underrated soccer picks. Even if Egypt lose, a Uzbekistan win or draw against Dominican Republic would send Egypt through on Tuesday.

Spain vs Egypt Match Analysis & Odds

This is expected to be Spain’s closest match of the group stage. Still, the Spain vs Egypt Olympic soccer odds price La Roja as comfortable -208 favorites. Spain are 0-2 ATS and Egypt are 1-1 as Spain -1 sits at -118 odds. Meanwhile, Egypt +1 comes in at even odds.

Spain have a number of big names on their team and have strength in depth, which could absolutely be a factor here. Egypt are +475 underdogs and we doubt they’ll be able to take down this Spanish side, especially given they scored just once against Uzbekistan and Dominican Republic combined.

Over 2.5 goals are priced at -133 odds and both of Spain’s matches so far have finished with three or more goals. Both teams to score is at -110 odds but it wouldn’t be surprising to see La Roja get their first clean sheet of the tournament here.
