THE FAVORITE
David Ahman & Jonatan Hellvig (Sweden) +100
Ahman and Hellvig carry a 16-match unbeaten streak into Paris, where they’ve been tabbed prohibitive favorites to take home gold in the 2024 Olympics Men’s Beach Volleyball.
The Swedes have won two straight European Championships and are on a streak of 10 consecutive finals to climb to No. 1 in the world rankings.
TOP CONTENDER
Anders Bernsten Mol & Christian Sandie Sorum (Norway) +400
Mol and Sorum won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games, edging the Russian Olympic Committee duo of Konstantin Semenov and Ilya Leshukov in the final.
While their accomplishments are astounding — 18 gold medals over a 26-tournament stretch from 2018-23, including four straight European Championships — many wonder if their reign as the world’s best may be over.
NEXT IN LINE
George Wanderley & Andre Loyola Stein (Brazil) +1000
Brazil has medaled in five of the last six Summer Olympics, including in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro when Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt took home gold.
The torch has since been passed to George Wanderley and Andre Loyola Stein, who hope to continue the country’s string of strong performances on the world’s biggest stage.
Ondrej Perusic & David Schweiner (Czech Republic) +1200
Perusic and Schweiner head to Paris with plenty of momentum, having beaten Sweden’s electrifying duo at the 2023 FIVB World Championships in Mexico.
Nils Ehlers & Clemens Wickler (Germany) +1200
Few have performed better leading up to the Olympics than Germany’s Ehlers and Wickler, who are carrying a string of seven consecutive Top-5 finishes. That momentum could go a long way in Paris.
Noslen Diaz Amaro & Jorge Alayo Moliner (Cuba) +1200
This duo from Cuba is on the cusp of the Top-10 world rankings, sitting 12th ahead of the Olympics. They’ve made a meteoric rise, taking home a silver medal at the Recife Challenge and another at the Saquarema Challenge.
Michal Bryl & Bartosz Losiak (Poland) +1400
Poland’s Bryl and Losiak earned a silver medal at the Vienna Elite16, reminding everyone they’re capable of competing at the highest levels.
OUTSIDE LOOKING IN
Stefan Boermans & Yorick de Groot (Netherlands) +1400
Boermans and de Groot are fifth in world rankings, though they are only +1400 to win Olympic gold. Say what you will about their chances, but that makes them one of the better value plays on the odds board.
Miles Partain & Andrew Benesh (USA) +1400
Partain and Benesh represent the United States’ best bet of medaling in this sport. At 22, Partain, who played UCLA men’s volleyball from 2021-23, will be the youngest U.S. Olympic beach volleyball player.
Younousse Cherif & Tijan Ahmed (Qatar) +1600
Cherif and Ahmed captured a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Can they build off that groundbreaking performance in the 2024 Olympic Men’s Beach Volleyball? Here’s their chance.
Samuele Cottafava & Paolo Nicolai (Italy) +1800
Nicolai teamed with Daniele Lupo to win a silver medal in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. Now he’s hoping to do the same, albeit with a different partner.
LONGSHOT
Miles Evans & Chase Budinger (USA) +5000
The 36-year-old Budinger will make his Olympic debut after playing seven years in the NBA with the Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Indiana Pacers, and Phoenix Suns. He also played a year professionally in Spain before retiring from basketball in 2017 to pursue a career with Team USA volleyball.
