Team USA Goes for Eighth Straight Gold in Women’s Basketball
Women's Basketball Olympics Preview in Both Formats

Basketball at the Olympics
The odds are in and we have our women’s basketball Olympics predictions. The Olympic basketball schedule kicks off on July 27th in Lille and will end at the Pierre-Mauroy Stadium on August 11th.
The 5×5 tournament will feature a dominant Team USA team that has won seven straight Olympic gold medals. They are looking to win gold again and set the record for the most Olympic gold medals in a row.
The women’s basketball Olympics USA Team hasn’t lost a game since 1992, and it doesn’t look like their winning streak will end in Paris. They are the heavy favorites to take home the gold again but will need to get their act together quickly, having only two games to tune up before they start the group stage.

Group Stage Odds
The road to gold for Team USA begins in a competitive group stage. They’ll face off against 11 other countries vying for the coveted top two spots in their four-team group (Group C) that will secure a spot in the knockout rounds.
Team USA will have their work cut out for them as they battle Belgium, Germany, and Japan.
Team France enters a challenging Group B alongside Australia, a powerhouse currently ranked third by FIBA, and Canada, another strong contender sitting at number five.
These teams know each other well – Australia recently beat Canada in the 2022 FIBA World Cup bronze medal game. Group A boasts the highest-ranked team, China, but every team in the tournament brings talent and the potential to surprise.

Team USA Superteam
The Team USA roster is a collection of the best women’s basketball players in the world, and although there was much drama leaving out rookie phenom Caitlin Clark, they will have the veteran leadership and wisdom to keep up their elite play.
Here is a look of the roster looking to sweep in Paris:
- Napheesa Collier (Forward) – Minnesota Lynx
- Kahleah Copper (Guard/Forward) – Phoenix Mercury
- Chelsea Gray (Guard) – Las Vegas Aces
- Brittney Griner (Center) – Phoenix Mercury
- Sabrina Ionescu (Guard) – New York Liberty
- Jewell Loyd (Guard) – Seattle Storm
- Kelsey Plum (Guard) – Las Vegas Aces
- Breanna Stewart (Forward) – New York Liberty
- Diana Taurasi (Guard) – Phoenix Mercury
- Alyssa Thomas (Forward) – Connecticut Sun
- A’ja Wilson (Forward) – Las Vegas Aces
- Jackie Young (Guard) – Las Vegas Aces
Led by veterans like Diana Taurasi, a six-time Olympian and gold medalist, and rising stars like A’ja Wilson, the team boasts a roster filled with talent and experience.
Taurasi is one gold medal away from being the most decorated team athlete in Olympic history.
The squad features players from across the WNBA, with strong representation from the Las Vegas Aces, Phoenix Mercury, and New York Liberty. This familiarity within the roster is expected to aid in building cohesion quickly.
Key players to watch include Brittney Griner, a dominant center, and Breanna Stewart, an all-around forward. Both are proven stars and will be crucial for Team USA’s success.

3×3 Tournament Odds
The Olympic basketball schedule also includes the 3×3 tournament. Team USA enters the tournament as the slight favorite, sporting a strong roster with experience and talent.
However, their chances could be impacted by Cameron Brink’s knee injury. Canada, with the Plouffe sisters dominating the individual rankings, presents a formidable challenge.
Meanwhile, Australia’s recent success in international competitions positions them as a team to watch.
While the USA, Canada, and Australia garner most of the attention, Spain shouldn’t be overlooked. Their recent victory over Canada and a championship win in a major 3×3 series showcase their capabilities.
Germany, too, deserves a mention. Their impressive qualifying performance suggests they could pull off some upsets.
With team chemistry as a major factor in this tournament, Canada appears well-positioned. The Plouffe sisters and Paige Crozon, all ranked highly in the individual world rankings, could form a dominant trio.
Additionally, Canada’s recent victories and their +350 odds make them a potentially lucrative pick for bettors.
Our Women’s Basketball Olympics Predictions for the 3×3 tournament say that betting against Team USA isn’t a bad idea. There is a ton of value with the other squads and they have proven they can win together before.
