USA Poised to Dominate in Olympic Women’s Gymnastics

U.S. Listed at Whopping Odds to Win 2024 Olympics Women's Gymnastics

The United States women’s gymnastics team is on a redemption tour, with an Olympic gold medal in Paris as its primary goal. The Americans were forced to settle for silver at the Tokyo Summer Games after Simone Biles, arguably the sport’s biggest star, removed herself from multiple finals citing mental health concerns.

The gold medal instead went to the Russian Olympic Committee, with the Americans coming in second ahead of Great Britain.

With the ROC not competing in this year’s Olympics, there’s again guaranteed a new champion in the team event. Biles and the Americans have separated themselves as overwhelming favorites to win gold, though the Tokyo Games proved that anything is possible.

Here’s a full breakdown of the 2024 Olympics women’s gymnastics odds.

THE FAVORITE

  • United States (-3500)

The United States, led by Simone Biles, is far and away the best bet to win gold at the Paris Olympics. The Olympics betting odds say as much. The Americans have been a force for years, with Biles the biggest star having already won seven Olympic medals during her career.

Biles, 27, shook off a calf injury to finish qualifying atop the all-around standings with a total of 59.566. The individual all-around is Thursday, where Biles and teammate Sunisa Lee, who won gold in Tokyo with Biles sidelined, are the top two contenders.

Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey are also back from Tokyo, while 16-year-old Hezly Rivera debuts as the youngest athlete in the American delegation.

The U.S. finished first in Sunday’s qualifying event, more than five points ahead of second-place Italy (166.861), as it looks to redeem itself following a runner-up finish to Russia in 2021.

TOP CONTENDERS

  • Italy (+1200)

Outside of the U.S., nobody performed better during qualifying than Italy, which looks to build on its European Championship.

Manila Esposito and Alice D’Amato were the top scorers in the all-around for the Italians, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. Elisa Iorio was 13th.

  • Brazil (+1200)

Brazil is among the biggest competitors to the U.S. in the 2024 Olympics women’s gymnastics, with Rebeca Andrade the headliner. Andrade won the all-around silver in Tokyo and captured gold on the vault, topping American MyKayla Skinner. She was one of two gymnasts to qualify for four of the five event finals in Paris.

Julia Soares also impressed alongside Flavia Saraiva, who locked up a spot in the all-around final with Andrade.

A medal is the expectation for the Brazilians.

NEXT IN LINE

  • Great Britain (+1800)

Great Britain scored bronze in Tokyo, scoring its first Olympic medal in 93 years. Alice Kinsella, 23, who won an individual bronze at the European Championships in the all-around competition, is the main returnee.

After finishing only seventh in qualifying, Great Britain must perform significantly better in the team finals to secure another medal in the 2024 Olympic Games. Georgia Mae-Fenton was its top qualifier, placing 20th.

  • China (+2000)

China was third behind the U.S. and Great Britain at the most recent World Championships. Qiu Qiyuan is one of China’s most decorated gymnasts, having won gold on the uneven bars at both the World and Asian Championships. She could potentially collect top honors in Paris as well. Qui’s teammate, Zhou Yaqin, is a lead contender on the beam.

The Chinese took third in qualifying, raising expectations for the team finals.

LONGSHOTS

  • Japan (+6000)

Japan finished fifth in qualifying, though it remains unlikely to medal in the 2024 Olympics women’s gymnastics. It’s led by 16-year-old Rina Kishi, who specializes in the floor event.

  • Canada (+6000)

Like Japan, Canada is a long shot.

Ellie Black was poised to win Canada’s first Olympic medal on the balance beam in Tokyo before an ankle injury ruined those plans. Now 28, she’s breaking ground by competing in her fourth Olympics.
