Como Back in Serie A After 21 Years

Juventus vs Como Soccer Betting Preview: Bianconeri Comfortable Home Favorites

Thiago Motta Era Underway at Juventus

After winning nine straight Scudettos from 2011-12 to 2019-20, Juventus haven’t won a Serie A title in any of the last four seasons. Now, with Thiago Motta as head coach, Juventus are hoping to return to the apex of Italian soccer.

On Monday, they kick off the 2024-25 season against newly-promoted Como, who are making their first appearance in Serie A since 2002-03. Como has invested heavily in their squad and will be looking to pull off a shock upset in the season opener. Ahead of Monday’s match, we’ll preview the Juventus vs Como soccer betting odds.

Juventus vs Como H2H:

This is the first chance for Juventus vs Como soccer betting since 2003. Juventus beat Como 3-1 and drew 1-1 on the 2002-03 Italian Serie A soccer schedule. All-time, Juventus are 13-12-4 against Como.

Vlahovic Main Man for Juventus

2023-24 Season:

  • Serie A: 19-14-5 (3rd)
  • Coppa Italia: Champions, defeated Atalanta 1-0 in the final

Juventus became more of a defensive team in Max Allegri’s second stint as head coach. The Bianconeri looked to grind out results, and they drew 14 times last season but won enough games to finish in third place in the Italian Serie A standings and return to the Champions League.

Still, Juventus fired Allegri after his outburst on the sidelines of the 1-0 Coppa Italia triumph over Atalanta. Soon after, the Turin club announced former Bologna coach Thiago Motta as their next head coach. Motta guided Bologna to the Champions League last season and is seen as a more progressive manager.

  • Early in the Summer, Juventus sealed a swap deal plus cash for Douglas Luiz, as Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea went the other way. Juve also have a new goalkeeper, Michele Di Gregorio, who put in some heroic performances for Monza last season.

Juve signed Khephren Thuram and Juan Cabal to round out their squad. Last season, Juve relied heavily on Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa for goals. Vlahovic scored 16 times in Serie A while Chiesa found the net on nine occasions. However, Chiesa is available on the transfer market and may be on his way out soon.

Vlahovic is the highest-paid player in Serie A and he’ll be the main man up top for Juve once again this season.

Busy Summer for New Boys Como

2023-24 Season:

  • Serie B: 21-10-7 (2nd)
  • Coppa Italia: Round of 64, 1-0 loss at Lecce

Como earned promotion back to Serie A after 21 years by finishing in second place in the 2023-24 Serie B. Cesc Fabregas took over coaching duties on an interim basis in the middle of the season and the former Spanish international midfielder guided Como back to the top flight.

Their historic Serie A results haven’t been awful. They’ve finished sixth on two occasions and have spent 14 total seasons in the league. Last season, Patrick Cutrone led Como with 14 goals and there are plenty of new faces around the club to provide support.

Andrea Belotti could be Como’s starting striker after joining from AS Roma. Como also has a new number one keeper, in Emil Audero. The most important signing of the Summer for Como could end up being central defender Alberto Dossena, who helped save Cagliari from relegation last season.

  • Como also completed permanent deals for Yannik Engelhardt, Raphael Varane, Ali Jasim, Alberto Morena, Alieu Fadera, Gabriel Strefezza, Pepe Reina, Ben Lhassine Kone, Mathias Braunoder and Marco Curto in an incredibly busy Summer.

Varane unfortunately picked up an injury in Como’s Coppa Italia match on Sunday at Sampdoria, which they lost in a penalty kick shootout. Varane is a doubt to start in defense on Monday as a result.

Juventus vs Como Odds & Analysis

If Juventus want to have any chance of being in the title race this season, they need to get off to a fast start. However, Juve’s only win in four friendly matches was over their reserve team. With players like Chiesa and Weston McKennie frozen out of the squad and Wojciech Szczęsny already gone, the atmosphere around the club is a bit strange.

Regardless, the Juventus vs Como soccer betting odds price hosts Juve as -300 favorites for Monday’s match. Como last got a road win over Juventus in 1951 but they are capable of staying competitive in this match.

  • Como +1.5 comes in at -135 odds and we don’t think it’s the worst bet on the odds board. Juve +1.5 sits at -110 and a draw is at +400.

Over 2.5 goals come in at -130, but Juve have conceded under a goal per game in each of the last three seasons.
