Final Serie A Standings Decided on Sunday
All Eyes on Title Race Between Inter and AC Milan

Rivals AC and Inter Milan Contest Scudetto
In one of the best title races in Serie A history, either AC Milan or Inter Milan will come away with the Scudetto on Sunday. Inter play at home to Sampdoria, while the Rossoneri have a tough match at Sassuolo. AC Milan are expected to take home their first title since the 2010-11 season but a loss could prove fatal. The final Serie A standings aren’t set as Salernitana and Cagliari battle to avoid relegation.
Title Coming Back to Milan
Inter Milan and AC Milan were the top-two teams in last year’s final Serie A standings as well. Defending champions Inter, are at serious risk of losing their Scudetto. They are two points behind the Rossoneri with just Sunday’s match remaining.
Italy Serie A betting odds price an AC Milan title win at -800 odds, while an Inter victory is listed at +550. That’s because all AC Milan needs to do on Sunday is draw at Sassuolo, which they’ve done in their last three trips there. Inter’s last hope is a win over Sampdoria, at -800 odds, and an AC Milan loss.
An AC Milan title win would signify a return to glory for the seven-time Champions League winners. If the Rossoneri win the Scudetto on Sunday they’d also match rivals Inter with 19 Serie A victories.
Can Salernitana Pull off a Great Escape?
Salernitana looked done and dusted midway through the season. The Serie A newcomers were in last place, needing a buyer to stay registered in the league and in complete disarray. When 2022 started, they had taken just eight points from their first 18 Serie A games.
Since, the Campania club have averaged over a point per game and are a win away from a great escape. It would be an excellent achievement given the state of the club just a few months ago. Salernitana are expected to stay up as -150 favorites at home vs an Udinese side with little to play for in their final Serie A match.
Cagliari’s latest spell in Serie A has lasted for six years but they’re in grave danger of going down. They’re -140 favorites to beat already-relegated Venezia on the road but will need some help from Udinese to stay up. As things stand right now, Cagliari are priced at -350 and Salernitana at +250 to go down to Serie B.
European Places up for Grabs
The title and relegation race will garner most of the attention this weekend but UEFA Europa League and Conference League places still hang in the balance. The top-four and the accompanying Champions League places are set. Also, Lazio will finish fifth in the final Serie A standings, which means they’ll play in the Europa League next season.
Still, there are three teams competing for the final two European places. Sixth-place Roma currently lead Fiorentina and Atalanta by one point for the final Europa League spot. Jose Mourinho’s side needs a win on Friday vs Torino to clinch but they can also make the UEL by winning the Conference League final vs Feyenoord next week. Roma are +105 favorites vs Torino and -160 favorites to lift the inaugural Conference League trophy.
Atalanta, who began the season in the Champions League, are at serious risk of missing out on European competition altogether. They’re two-goal favorites vs Empoli on Saturday but Gian Piero Gasperini’s team has been wildly inconsistent this season.
Fiorentina holds the tiebreaker over Atalanta for seventh, so a win over former striker Dusan Vlahovic and Juventus will at least clinch a European place. With Juve locked into fourth, the Viola are -110 favorites. The most interesting stipulation would be a Roma loss and wins by both Fiorentina and Atalanta. If that happens and Roma defeats Feyenoord next Wednesday, all three teams would be playing in European competition next season.
