Serie A Matchday 2: Newly Promoted Parma Get Another Tough Match

Milan Leave It For Late

Paulo Fonseca’s first match as AC Milan’s head coach didn’t exactly go according to plan. The Rossoneri fell behind 2-0 in their Serie A opener at Torino and were headed for a loss. A late comeback allowed Milan to escape with a point and now they head to new boys Parma on Matchday 2.

Parma also picked up a draw, against Fiorentina, in their first Serie A match since 2021. As both times look to get in the win column for the first time this season, we’ll check out the Parma vs AC Milan soccer betting odds.

Parma vs AC Milan Head-to-Head

This is the first meeting between Parma and AC Milan since 2021 when AC Milan picked up a 3-1 win at the Ennio Tardini. The Serie A results in this fixture have often gone the Rossoneri’s way, as AC Milan are unbeaten in the last eight games. Parma last defeated AC Milan over 10 years ago, in March 2014.

Parma Back in the Top Flight

  • Last Serie A Match: 1-1 D vs Fiorentina
  • Next Serie A Match: Aug. 31 at Napoli

Parma’s first match on the Serie A schedule for over three years resulted in a point for the Emilia-Romagna club. They went up 1-0 against Fiorentina as Dennis Man scored midway through the first half as Ange-Yoan Bonny set the Romanian up.

Fiorentina equalized on a brilliantly-taken Cristiano Biraghi free kick in the second half. Fiorentina’s Marin Pongracic got sent off with a few minutes to play, but Parma could not capitalize.

Still, it was a good result in Parma’s return to Serie A and Zion Suzuki became the first-ever Japanese goalkeeper to play in the Italian top flight. He made six saves in his first match since joining from Urawa Red Diamonds.

Parma were Serie B champions last season and managed to create few chances against Fiorentina. Over two seasons in the top two Italian divisions, Bonny has provided the most assists of any Serie A player 20 years old or younger. The French striker was a handful for Fiorentina last Saturday.

AC Milan Salvage Point

  • Last Serie A Match: 2-2 D vs Torino
  • Next Serie A Match: Aug. 31st at Lazio

AC Milan created tons of chances against Torino in their opening match of the Serie A season. However, that didn’t translate into goals, at least not until late on. An own goal from Malick Thiaw and a Duvan Zapata header put the visitors up 2-0. AC Milan’s defensive marking on Torino’s second goal was particularly poor.

Still, the Rossoneri managed to pull off a comeback and Alvaro Morata was influential on his debut. The Spanish Euro 2024 winner came off the bench to score Milan’s first goal, in the 89th minute.

Two other subs combined for the equalizer as Noah Okafor first-timed a Yunus Musah cross in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

We think Morata will force his way into the starting lineup and we should see Theo Hernandez return to his spot at left back as well.

There are still some concerns about Milan’s defense, as they conceded the most goals of any top-six Serie A team last season. It remains to be seen if new signing Strahinja Pavlovic will get time at center back over Thiaw.

Last season, under Stefano Pioli, the Rossoneri managed a second-place finish but were 19 points behind champions Inter. Serie A predictions typically have Milan in the top four this season and they entered the campaign at +650 outright odds.

Rafael Leao is an ever-present danger on the left flank and Christian Pulisic was excellent last season. Look for the American to bounce back from a rough opening match here.

Parma vs AC Milan Match Analysis & Odds

AC Milan were -135 favorites for their season opener but that ended in a draw. Here, Milan are also favored, at -125 odds. Emerson Royal, who Milan signed from Tottenham last week, could debut at right back.

Meanwhile, defender Pierre Kalulu was in talks to leave for Juventus but may yet make a U-turn. Alessandro Florenzi is out long-term for the Rossoneri, along with backup keeper Marco Sportiello.

Parma were +250 underdogs in their opening match against Fiorentina and the Parma vs AC Milan soccer betting odds price the hosts as +320 underdogs here. On Saturday, Parma could get a boost when Enrico Delprati returns from a suspension and if Yordan Osorio returns from a minor injury.

However, Adrian Benedyczak, who scored 10 goals in Serie B last season, is out long term and fellow attacker Gabriel Charpentier could miss some more time with an injury. In any case, a draw is at +275 odds for this one.

The Parma vs AC Milan soccer betting odds also list Parma +0.5 at even odds and the over/under goal total as 2.5. Four goals have been scored in the last three meetings and over 2.5 goals sits at -135 odds.
