Lazio Off to Slow Start

On Saturday, Lazio head to Milan to take on AC Milan in a high-profile Serie A match. The Rossoneri have won their last two matches heading into this one, even with goalkeeper Mike Maignan out. They’ll go for a third straight here and we’ll check out the AC Milan vs Lazio odds.

MIL AC Milan vs Lazio LAZ

Date & Time:
Location: Stadio San Siro, Milan, Italy

Head-to-Head:

Over the last few seasons, the home team has consistently managed to pick up Serie A results in this fixture. The home side has lost just one of the last seven meetings and managed to win each matchup last season. Lazio picked up a 4-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico and AC Milan won 2-0 at the San Siro. At least one team has also failed to score in five of the last six head-to-head matchups. AC Milan has also won six of the last eight, in all competitions.

AC Milan Level on Points With Inter

Two weekends ago, Inter Milan embarrassed their rivals AC Milan 5-1 in the Derby della Madonnina. That has been the only blemish on the Rossoneri’s otherwise solid season so far. AC Milan played Newcastle to a scoreless draw last Tuesday in their Champions League opener as keeper Mike Maignan picked up an injury. Even with Maignan out, AC Milan managed to pick up a 1-0 win over Verona last Saturday.

Rafael Leao scored the game’s only goal, which was his third of the Serie A season so far. Stefano Pioli decided to rest Leao and Olivier Giroud on Wednesday at Cagliari. Other players stepped up in their absence and Noah Okafor scored his first AC Milan goal on his full debut.

Englishmen Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek also got on the scoresheet in the 3-1 win. Loftus-Cheek’s goal was also his first for the club since joining over the Summer. AC Milan, with a 5-1 record, are in second place in the Serie A table and level on points with leaders Inter.

Now, the AC Milan vs Lazio odds price the Rossoneri as -135 favorites for Saturday’s match. Pioli has a long injury list to contend with, though. Luka Jovic and Mike Maignan are doubtful, while Rade Krunic, Pierre Kalulu, and Ismael Bennacer are likely out.

Inconsistency Plaguing Lazio

The last couple of weeks have been full of ups and downs for Lazio. On Matchday 5, a couple of weeks back, the Biancocelesti fell 3-1 to Juventus. Then, last Tuesday, Lazio hosted Atletico Madrid in their Champions League opener. Atletico opened the scoring and Lazio trailed for the vast majority of the match. Incredibly, Lazio keeper Ivan Provedel scored a header to tie the match and help the Biancocelesti come away with a point.

On Saturday, Lazio drew 1-1 vs. Monza as Ciro Immobile’s penalty was canceled out by a Roberto Gagliardini strike. Finally, on their seventh match of the season, Lazio kept their first clean sheet on Wednesday. The Biancocelesti defeated Torino 2-0 as Matias Vecino and Mattia Zaccagni got on the scoresheet.

Even though they picked up their second win of the season on Wednesday, Lazio has been an inconsistent pick for betting on soccer. Lazio can’t chalk up their slow start to injury issues, as all of their key players should be available for Saturday’s match. They haven’t been clicking offensively, with just seven goals in six Serie A games so far.

Match Analysis & Odds

In the last 30 years, Lazio has managed just one win at AC Milan in Serie A play. Here, the AC Milan vs Lazio odds price the Rossoneri as -135 favorites. Lazio shows +380 odds, which corresponds to a 20.8 percent implied chance of victory. Draws have been quite rare in this fixture recently but one comes in at +280 odds.

Expect Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud to be back in the lineup for Milan here as Christian Pulisic completes the front three. Giroud leads Serie A with three assists and he’s also scored four goals. Plus, Pulisic picked up an assist on Wednesday and put in the cross that the Cagliari keeper pushed into Noah Okafor’s path.

Apart from the Milan Derby, the Rossoneri have also conceded just three goals in their other five Serie A games. Under 2.5 goals display -120 odds for the match. Meanwhile, AC Milan -0.5, -1 is priced at -105 and Lazio +0.5, +1 sits at -115.
