Serie A Matchday 36 Odds: Relegation Battle Front and Center

Defending Champions AC Milan Struggling

Relegation Battle Front and Center

The last relegation spot in Serie A is coming down to the wire. If the season ended today, 18th-placed Verona would be the third and final team to head down to Serie B. However, Spezia are also on 30 points and Lecce aren’t far ahead, with 2. In a crucial match for both sides, Lecce host Spezia this Sunday. Verona also head on the road to European hopefuls Atalanta on Saturday. While the relegation battle plays out, defending champion AC Milan are on the ropes. With just three games to go, the Rossoneri are four points outside of the top four. They’ll take on already-relegated Sampdoria on Saturday as rivals Inter Milan head to champions Napoli. Let’s preview the Serie A Matchday 36 odds from what should be an action packed weekend.

Matches of the Week

ATA Atalanta vs Verona VER

Date, time:

Atalanta disappointingly missed out on European competition last season and are in danger of succumbing to the same fate. La Dea enter Matchday 36 in seventh place in the Serie A standings, which will confer a UEFA Conference League berth at best.

Atalanta host Hellas Verona on Saturday, who are fighting for their Serie A lives. Verona have managed to win two of their last five matches but are still in the relegation zone.

For Saturday’s match, Atalanta are one-goal favorites despite losing their last two matches. La Dea fell 1-0 to Salernitana on Saturday and also failed to score in a recent 2-0 defeat to Juventus.

Atalanta’s struggles to score coincide with leading scorer Ademola Lookman’s thigh injury and he’s a doubt for Saturday. Regardless, Atalanta -1 shows -105 odds and the hosts are -180 moneyline favorites. Meanwhile, Hellas +1 sits at -115 odds and they’ve won their last two road matches at Atalanta. In fact, the road team has won the last five meetings but Verona are +480 underdogs here.

Verona have scored just four times in their last five matches while conceding nine times. Over 2.5 goals display -120 odds for this match and Atalanta have conceded in their last ten Serie A matches.

A draw may be enough for Verona to get out of the relegation zone, for now, but it won’t do much for Atalanta’s Europa League hopes. A draw is implied to be a bit unlikely, at +320 odds. Starting Verona defender Giangiacomo Magnani is also a doubt to play here, which could hurt the visitors’ chances.

MIL AC Milan vs Sampdoria SAM

Date, time:

AC Milan disappointingly failed to score across two matches vs. rivals Inter Milan in the Champions League Semifinals. Now the Serie A Scudetto-holders need to qualify for the UCL through the league. That could prove to be difficult, as the Rossoneri are four points behind fourth-placed Lazio heading into Matchday 36.

Milan also lost 2-0 to relegation-threatened Spezia last weekend and have won just one of their last six matches, in all competitions.

Still, Sampdoria are Serie A’s last-placed team and have only won three games all season. They’re going down to Serie B at the end of the season and have scored a league-low 21 goals this season. The Serie A Matchday 36 odds list Milan as two-goal favorites at the San Siro for Saturday’s match.

Milan -2 shows -105 odds, while Sampdoria +2 sits at -115 odds. Sampdoria are winless in the last seven meetings between these sides and AC Milan have won the last three. However, all of those wins have been by a single-goal margin.

Rafael Leao is back from injury for Milan, which is a boost, and he’ll be motivated after missing a big chance vs. Inter. The Rossoneri are -550 favorites here while La Samp are +1600 underdogs.

They’ve only defeated AC Milan once in the past decade at the San Siro. At 2-3-12, Sampdoria also have the league’s worst road record. A draw displays +625 odds here, while under three goals come in at -115.

LEC Lecce vs Spezia SPE

Date, time:

It may not seem like it on first glance but Lecce vs. Spezia is one of the most important late-season matches on the Serie A schedule. Both teams are desperately attempting to avoid relegation and Spezia took a big step last weekend.

The Ligurian side defeated AC Milan 2-0 to escape the relegation zone for the time being but are level on points with 18th-placed Verona. Lecce are just two points ahead of Spezia and Verona, in 16th but managed an important 2-2 draw vs. Lazio last Friday.

Lecce enter Sunday’s match as 0.5-goal home favorites but have been abysmal at the Stadio Via del Mare this season. They’re just 3-7-7 this season at home but display even ATS and moneyline odds here.

Spezia haven’t been any better on the road this season, with a 2-4-11 record. Their last road win was back in January but Spezia +0.5 does come in at -120 odds. Notably, Spezia defender Kelvin Amian is suspended for this match as Spezia are +290 moneyline underdogs.

Both teams have picked up just four points in their last five matches and a draw wouldn’t be the end of the world for either. A draw is priced at +235 odds and when these teams met in January, the match finished scoreless.

January’s match was the first-ever Serie A meeting between these two sides but Lecce are unbeaten in the last four matchups, in all competitions. Both teams scored twice last weekend and over two goals come in at -135 odds for Sunday’s contest.

NAP Napoli vs Inter Milan INT

Date, time:

Inter Milan booked their place in the Champions League Final for the first time since 2010 by defeating rivals AC Milan 3-0, on aggregate. The Nerazzurri are on an absolute tear over the last month, with eight consecutive wins.

On Sunday, they’ll head on the road to take on 2022-23 Serie A champions Napoli. Last weekend, Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti fielded a lineup composed mostly of backups as the Partenopei fell 2-0 to Monza.

With Inter still fighting for a berth in next season’s Champions League, they’ll be highly motivated for this match. The Serie A Matchday 36 odds list this one as a pick’em as the Nerazzurri are favorites. Napoli pk comes in at +105 odds, while visitors Inter show -125 ATS odds.

Inter are one of the select few clubs to defeat Napoli this season and got a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture, courtesy of an Edin Dzeko goal. Inter are +145 moneyline favorites and will look to extend their winning streak to nine. Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku have been standouts for the Nerazzurri over the last few weeks.

Meanwhile, Napoli clinched the title a couple weeks ago and avoiding any long term injuries is more important than winning football matches at this point.

The Partenopei are also winless in their last seven matches vs. Inter and have scored just five times in those matches. Two of the last four Serie A meetings between these sides have finished in draws and another displays +235 odds. Meanwhile, under 2.5 goals are priced at -115 odds as Inter have conceded just twice in their last five games.
