Australian Open Women’s Final Odds: Can Rybakina Pull Off Another Upset?

Rybakina, Sabalenka Go After First Australian Open Titles

Can Sabalenka Secure That Elusive First Grand Slam Title?

This was not the matchup online bettors were expecting when the Australian Open got underway!

No. 22 seed Elena Rybakina had to dispatch of not only the top-seeded Iga Swiatek but also former world No. 1 and two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka. Still she is considered to be the underdog according to the Australian Open women’s finals odds.

Sabalenka did have to eliminate seeded players Elise Mertens and Belinda Bencic to reach the quarterfinals. But with all the upsets in her half of the draw, she had consecutive matches against unranked foes.

The Tennis matchup between Rybakina and Sabalenka is set for Saturday at 3:30 a.m. ET as the two 6-foot right-handers are ready to slug it out in the biggest match of their careers.

Australian Open Women’s Final Preview

Rybakina Slaying the Giants

Elena Rybakina is proving that her run to the 2022 Wimbledon title was no fluke as she is back in a Grand Slam singles final.

Rybakina opened things up in the field when she took out the top-seeded Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-4 in the Round of 16.

She has dropped just one set and that came against American Danielle Collins in the third round. That is not enough to make her the favorite when it comes to the Australian Open women’s finals odds.

Rybakina hadn’t advanced past the third round in four previous appearances in the Australian Open.

Rybakina had nine aces and won 78% of the points on Azarenka’s second serve to move on in a match featuring 19 breakpoint opportunities.

Sabalenka Ready For a Breakthrough

Aryna Sabalenka has been knocking on the door of her first Grand Slam singles title as she reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 2021 and advanced to the semifinals at each of the last two US Opens.

She is not a stranger to high-profile championship matches with a run to the 2022 tour finals as well as winning two Grand Slam doubles titles. Now she is favored according to the Australian Open women’s finals odds.

Sabalenka hasn’t dropped a set on her way to her first Grand Slam singles final.

She had 33 winners compared to nine for the unseeded Magda Linette as her aggressive style was too much for Linette. The tennis spread betting predicted a routine victory for Sabalenka and after a tough first set, that is what happened.

No. 2 Ons Jabeur went out in the second round while Linette upset No. 4 seed Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals. Neither No. 8 Daria Kasatkina nor No. 9 seed Veronika Kudermetova got past the second round.

Sabalenka did have to dispatch of seeded players Elise Mertens and Belinda Bencic to reach the quarterfinals. But with all the upsets in her half of the draw, she had consecutive matches against unranked foes.

Sabalenka can pile up the service aces. A key has been limiting unnecessary double faults even though she is known to go for her shots, even when it comes time for the second serves.

Elena Rybakina vs Aryna Sabalenka Betting Verdict

Sabalenka has won the last three meetings with Rybakina. All three went three sets and that includes a Round of 16 matchups at Wimbledon in 2021 so this could be an entertaining match.
Sabalenka has won the first set each time and will look to start strong.

Rybakina is a great story as she hadn’t won back-to-back matches since advancing to the quarterfinals at the AGEL Open in the Czech Republic in October before getting on this run in Melbourne. However, Sabalenka will be hard to beat as she eyes her first Grand Slam title.

With wins over the top three seeded Tennis players to reach the WTA Tour finals in November and then winning the title at Adelaide without dropping a set, she was considered to be one of the front-runners coming into the tournament.

When looking at the Australian Open odds, Sabalenka is priced at -135 to win the title while Rybakina comes in at +115. The total is set at 22.5 games.
