First Quarter: Swiatek, Gauff Highlight

Swiatek and Gauff are on a collision course for a quarterfinal showdown Down Under, but getting into the second week of the Australian Open is going to be challenging for the pair. The first quarter is loaded with potential threats at every turn – tennis players whose odds to win put them in the contender category.

Swiatek’s path to the final eight could see her face 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu in the third round. While the R16 sets up several intriguing challengers, including 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, last year’s runner up Danielle Collins or dark horse Karolina Muchova.

Gauff’s path to the final eight will see her traverse a treacherous path. She’s slated to take on 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the R64. Then, China’s rising star Qinwen Zheng or American Bernarda Pera could emerge as a R32 challenger.

In the R16, big hitting Jelena Ostapenko looms as a potential stumbling block. Alternatively, Catherina McNally. Kateryna Baindl or Anna Bondar are among other potential fourth round opponents.

Second Quarter: Pegula, Sakkari Headline

Pegula and Maria Sakkari hug opposite ends of the second quarter, setting them on a course for a potential quarterfinal showdown in Melbourne. As per the women’s Australian Open odds, both tennis players are inside the Top 10 best tennis bets to win the title – what would be a maiden Grand Slam crown in each case.

Pegula’s campaign takes her through several dangerous floaters, including Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the R64. Then, in the third round, Pegula will take on the winner of Olivia Gadecki versus Marta Kostyuk. Arguably, however, the R16 looms as the trickiest round with the possibility of facing Petra Kvitova or Barbora Krejčíková. Outside of this Czech tandem, other tennis matchups could see Pegula face Clara Burel or Anhelina Kalinina.

Sakkari’s course is potentially tougher than Pegula’s. Although she will take on qualifier Diana Schnaider in the R64, she could see dangerous floaters Jil Teichmann  or Lin Zhu in the R32. In the fourth round, things go up a notch in the level of competition with the potential of a clash with American Madison Keys or former two-time Australian Open Victoria Azarenka. Other challengers include Nadia Podoroska and Xinyu Wang.

Third Quarter: Garcia and Kasatkina Feature

Carolina Garcia and Daria Kasatkina are the highest seeds drawn into the third quarter putting them on course for a final eight clash. Both are Top 10 tennis players, but according to the women’s Australian Open odds, Garcia’s chances to win the title Down Under are conspicuously higher than Kasatkina.

Garcia’s campaign will begin against a Canadian qualifier, Katherine Sebov. Then, in the second round, she will face the winner of Leylah Fernandez vs Alize Cornet. The R32 could cough up Lucia Bronzetti, Laura Siegemund or lucky loser Elizabeth Mandlik. The highest seed that could emerge from the R16 is Anett Kontaveit. Alternative matchups could feature a couple of wild cards, American Taylor Townsend and France’s Diane Parry or dangerous floater Magda Linette from Poland. Be sure to check on the full tennis schedule for this tournament.

Kasatkina has the tougher side of this quarter – on paper. The Russian opens her bid against compatriot Varvara Gracheva. In the second round, she’ll face the winner of Lucrezia Stefanini vs Tatjana Maria. But in the R32, she could come up against former Top 5 player Karolina Pliskova. The Czech has one of the biggest serves in the women’s game.  Should Kasatkina survive this round, she could come up against compatriot Veronika Kudermetova or China’s Shuai Zhang in the R16, to name a few challengers.

Fourth Quarter, Jabeur, Sabalenka

The fourth quarter of the draw is the proverbial “group of death” with Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur flanking adjacent corners of the quarter. Either one of these Top 5 players in the women’s could go on to win the Australian Open title, marking their first-ever major title.

Aryna Sabalenka opens her tennis tournament against dark horse Tereza Martincova. The second round will pit her against the winner of Shelby Rogers vs Arianne Hartono. Things get tougher in the R32 with a potential matchup against former two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza or Elise Mertens. American Lauren Davis and Danka Kovinic also lurk as dangerous floaters here. The R16 could set up a clash with power-player Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, big-hitting Camilla Giorg, Martina Trevisani or Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova.

Jabeur path is no walk either with a tough opening match against Tamara Zidansek. Then, the Tunisian trailblazer will take on the winner of Alison Alison Riske-Amritraj vs Marketa Vondrousova. The R32 could see Australian wild card Jaimee Fourlis, Linda Fruhvirtova, Kimberly Birrell or veteran Kaia Kanepi emerge as challengers. In the fourth round, Jabeur could go toe-to-toe with former US Open champion Sloane Stephens, dark horse Liudmila Samsonova or in-form Beatriz Haddad-Maia, to name a few.
