French Open Champion Swiatek The Olympic Favorite

The Olympic Tennis Odds Has Top-Ranked Swiatek As the Olympic Favorite

Swiatek Looks For More Success On the Red Clay at Roland Garros

Iga Swiatek has been nearly unbeatable at Roland Garros in recent years, so it is hardly a surprise to see her leading the way in the women’s Olympic tennis odds with the tournament being held at the site of the French Open.

Swiatek has won the last three French Open titles and four of the last five with recently crowned Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova and Jelena Ostapenko the only other former French Open singles champions in the women’s field.

No. 4 Aryna Sabalenka, No. 10 Daria Kasatkina, and No. 12 Anna Kalinskaya are the top players not in the Olympic field. The defending Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic is also not part of the 64-player draw as the trend of not having any repeat champions in women’s tennis at the Olympics will continue.

Swiatek is priced at -188 to win the tennis Olympics followed by Coco Gauff at +650 and Elena Rybakina at +1100. Unseeded Mirra Andreeva and Naomi Osaka are both at +1800 in the Olympic tennis odds.

Coco Gauff of the United States, Danka Kovinic of Montenegro, and Elina Svitolina of Ukraine will be flag bearers for their countries at the opening ceremonies.

“It’s never been a tennis player before,” Gauff recently told the media. “Allowing me to hold this honor, it means even more when it comes [from] the peers around me. To be a part of that excellence means a lot.”

The Olympic tennis schedule begins on Saturday with the gold medal being decided on Aug. 4.

Unfinished Business For Top-Seeded Swiatek

Iga Swiatek saw her quest for Olympic gold end with a second-round loss to Paula Badosa three years ago. Now she is the top seed and the favorite according to the women’s Olympic tennis odds.

She would be a top contender on any surface but that is even more the case with the event being held on the red clay at Roland Garros where Swiatek has gone 32-1 while winning four of the last five French Open women’s singles titles.

Swiatek opens with Irina-Camelia Begu with the first seeded player she might run into being Diana Shnaider.
Jelena Ostapenko, a former French Open semifinalist, and American Danielle Collins are other seeded players in her quartet of the draw.

If Collins gets by Laura Siegemund in the first round, she may run into former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki. Australian Open semifinalist Dayana Yastremska is another unseeded player to keep an eye on.

Gauff Eyeing Olympic Gold

Coco Gauff is the No. 2 seed as she looks to join Helen Wills, Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport, Venus Williams, and Serena Williams as Americans to win the women’s singles title at the Olympics. She opens with Ajla Tomljanovic. No. 13 seed Donna Vekic or unseeded Bianca Andreescu are possible third-round foes.

Maria Sakkari is the highest seed in Gauff’s quarter. She is a former French Open semifinalist. However, since reaching the 2021 US Open semifinals, Sakkari is 12-10 at Grand Slams with four first-round exits.

Marta Kostyuk is another seeded player to keep an eye on.

Gauff has been flying under the radar since a loss to Emma Navarro in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon. She did reach the 2022 French Open final and once trained at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France. Gauff is also a former junior singles champion at the French Open.

Gauff tested positive for COVID and was unable to play in the most recent Olympic tournament.

Osaka-Kerber Match to Draw Plenty of Betting Action

With all due respect to third-seeded Elena Rybakina, the first match that jumps off the draw sheet is the first-round clash of former World No. 1 players Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber. The winner of the match figures to get Rybakina in the second round.

This is not the easiest of quarters with Qinwen Zheng, American Emma Navarro and Leylah Fernández other seeded players.

Rybakina has been on the wrong side of three-set results against Paolini at the French Open and versus Krejcikova at Wimbledon.

Caroline Garcia will have the support of the home crowd as the former French Open quarterfinalist could be a dangerous floater along with Karolina Muchova.

If Garcia manages to upset Zheng in the first round, she might be around for a while.

The winner of this bracket could run into Olympic favorite Swiatek in the semifinals.

Will Wimbledon Finalists Krejcikova and Paolin Meet Again?

There is a chance of a Wimbledon rematch as Barbora Krejcikova and Jasmine Paolini are in the same quarter of the draw after Krejcikova topped Paolini in the Wimbledon final. It could make for a great storyline even if the Olympic women’s tennis odds aren’t projecting the survivor in this quarter of the draw to get by Gauff in the semifinals.

Krejcikova might need to contend with American Jessica Pegula, the No. 5 seed just to get to the quarterfinals.
Paolini’s path might be even more daunting with unseeded teenager Mirra Andreeva lurking as well as No. 14 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, a semifinalist at the 2023 French Open.
