Player of the Week: Coco Gauff
American Teenager Wins US Open

Coco Gauff comes off her first grand slam win, and the Coco Gauff player stats for her US Open win read well.
The American teenager led all US Open scores when beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final, so she’s our clear tennis Player of the Week.
She has matured into one of the best players in the world, and at the age of 19, she could have many more grand slams to come.
How the US Open Unfolded
US Open odds had Gauff at +750 to win outright, and she didn’t let bettors down.
There were some concerning signs early on after she dropping the opening set in her first round clash, but she rebounded well to escape defeat.
As the tournament continued, she grew with confidence. Her wins against Elise Mertens and Carolina Wozniacki came in three sets, but having to dig deep in the third and final set gave her the confidence to kick on with it.
Coco Gauff player stats saw her winning 6-0 and 6-1 against those opponents in the third set, so she demolished them when it counted.
Jelena Ostapenko stood no chance with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat, and we could see her status rise, and her odds shorten.
Sabalenka was still the favorite once Iga Swiatek was knocked out. However, entering the final, Gauff had wrestled favoritism away from the world number one.
Tennis great John McEnroe couldn’t believe people had written her off.
“I heard Coco talking about the people who were writing her off and saying that she was never going to win a major,” McEnroe said. “Who were those people?
“I’m not familiar with those people because I think her progress has been steady. It has been really positive, and she was in the final of the French.
“Okay, so there were a couple of stumbling blocks along the way, but I don’t think anyone didn’t think she was going to win a bunch of majors.
How did Gauff Win?
Gauff was a model of consistency and poise, and unlike many tennis players, she didn’t let the occasion get to her.
As past US Open results have shown, players like Sabalenka don’t handle the pressure well. However, Gauff, despite being a set down in the US Open final, didn’t shirk the task at hand.
There is nothing about her game that stands out above the rest. She doesn’t have an explosive forehand or backhand, or a blistering serve, but she limits her errors.
That could win her many more grand slam titles, and bettors should expect her odds for the likes of the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and French Open to be much shorter than +750.
She could soon by the best player in the world, so watch this space.
