Sinner Eyeing A Second Consecutive Title North of the Border
2024 ATP National Bank Open Odds Has Defending Champion Sinner As A Player to Beat
Can Canadians Or Americans Make Noise At ATP Stop in Montreal?
Don’t look for Olympic men’s singles finalists in the ATP event in Montreal. However, Jannik Sinner is back and he leads the 2024 ATP National Bank Open odds.
Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Grigor Dimitrov, and Stefanos Tsitsipas are the other tennis players who will receive first-round byes as the top seeds in the tournament.
Sinner, who remains at No. 1 in the ATP rankings, is looking to join Andre Agassi, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal as the only back-to-back champions since the event became an ATP 1000 event in 1990.
This is one of the warm up tournaments as the top players look to prepare for a run at the US Open title. Sinner trails only Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic at +155 in the tennis betting odds of winning Montreal followed by Daniil Medvedev at +600. This is also a tournament that could have a role in determining the field for the ATP finals.
The National Bank Open begins on Tuesday. The Frances Tiafoe-Alejandro Tabilo, Tomás Martín Etcheverry-Nicolás Jarry, Arthur Fils-Ugo Humbert, Cameron Norrie-Marcos Giron, Holger Rune-Milos Raonic clashes are among the best potential first-round matches.
Sinner Eyeing A Second Straight Title
A case of tonsillitis forced Jannik Sinner to withdraw on the eve of the Olympic singles draw being pulled. He has arrived in Montreal and is looking to become the first men’s singles repeat champion since Rafael Nadal in 2018 and 2019.
“I’m very happy to be back here,” Sinner recently told the media after arriving in Montreal. I didn’t play very well two years ago [the 2023 event was held in Toronto] so hopefully I can play a little bit better. But let’s see. I feel like the court from here and Toronto, they’re very similar in one way, maybe here it’s flying a little bit more. But I’m just happy to be here, the atmosphere is amazing always.”
Americans Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul as well as Canadian Denis Shapovalov are all in his portion of the draw so keep an eye on their 2024 ATP National Bank Open odds.
If Sinner gets through his first match, Tiafoe, No. 15 seed Alejandro Tabilo, Lorenzo Sonego or Taliek Griekspoor could be waiting in the third round.
Paul and Shapovalov could meet in the second round with a potential third-round showdown with No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev up next.

Will Medvedev and Tsitsipas Meet in the Quarterfinals?
Five years have passed since Daniil Medvedev reached his lone final in Canada. He could have his work cut out for him even if he is viewed as a contender according to the 2024 ATP National Bank Open odds.
Karen Khachanov could be the first seeded player that Medvedev has to contend with. The last time that they met was at the Monte-Carlo Masters event with Khachanov winning 6-3, 7-5. Medvedev did top Khachanov in all three meetings in 2023.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ugo Humbert are the seeded players in the bottom portion of that draw and could be the quarterfinal opponent for Medvedev. Tsitsipas and Medvedev met seven times from 2021 to 2023 but this would be the first clash of 2024.
Is Hurkacz Ready to Make a Run in Montreal?
No. 4 seed Hubert Hurkacz was another player who had to beg out of the Olympics so it is worth keeping an eye on his form early in the tournament.
Veteran Frenchman Gael Monfils might be his first opponent with Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime a possible foe in the third round.
No. 7 seed Grigor Dimitrov and American Ben Shelton are the favorites to meet with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
Shelton is hoping to be the first U.S.-born player to win this tournament since Andre Agassi in 2003.
It has been a longer wait for a men’s champion from Canada as Robert Bedard won the last of his three titles in 1958. No player from Canada has reached the men’s singles final since.
Can Americans End Zverev’s Title Hopes?
Alexander Zverev, the No. 2 seed, could see No. 13 Holger Rune before getting to the quarterfinals. Of course, Rune will need to contend with the home crowd cheering for Canada’s Milos Raonic in the first round.
No. 6 seed Casper Ruud is a possible quarter final opponent. Ruud may need to eliminate multiple Americans before reaching the quarterfinals.
Marcos Giron meets Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie in one of the best first-round matches. Giron recently won his first ATP title on the grass courts in Newport, R.I.
No. 9 seed Taylor Fritz and unseeded Sebastian Korda could square off in the second round with the winner meeting Ruud, Giron or Norrie. Korda just won the title in Washington, D.C. to move up four spots to No. 18 in the latest ATP rankings.

Korda joins his father Petr as a champion of the tour spot in Washington.
“It’s pretty cool,” Korda said. “I used to come here when I was like 14, 15. This is definitely one of my favorite tournaments. I love coming here. I have a pretty great connection to the city. Just to play here is pretty special.”
Alcaraz Passing On Trip to Canada
Carlos Alcaraz, the winner of the last two Grand Slam men’s singles titles, has cited fatigue for pulling out of the tournament best known as the Canadian Open.
Jiri Lehecka and Francisco Cerundolo have also withdrawn from the tournament but Alcaraz’s departure is the biggest news.
“It has been a very long season for me and due to the accumulation of matches and fatigue, I will not be able to play in Montreal this year,” Alcaraz said in a statement. “I was really looking forward to coming back to Canada and enjoying the love of the fans. Hope to see everyone in Montreal in the years to come!”
After losing to American Tommy Paul in his first match in Montreal in 2022, Alcaraz advanced to the 2023 quarterfinals.
