Edwards vs Muhammad Headline MMA in July

2024 July MMA Report

There is plenty of MMA action in July, including the headline event of UFC 304.

The main event is Leon Edwards vs Belal Muhammad for the welterweight title, and the undercard is stacked.

Our 2024 July MMA report looks at the biggest fights of the month, which kicks off with a UFC Fight Night on July 13.

The Hype is Real Around UFC 304

Following a disappointing UFC 303, things will look to pick up at the end of July with UFC 304.

Apart from the main event on UFC 303, the crowd didn’t have much chance to get excited. However, UFC 304 should bring plenty of excitement.

It’s the biggest card on the MMA schedule in July, and there are some massive fights for bettors to sink their teeth into.

Headlining the card in Manchester is Edwards vs Muhammad. Edwards won the UFC welterweight title when head kicking Kamaru Usman before defending it against Colby Covington.

Muhammad is 23-3 and one of the more promising MMA fighters on the roster. However, he has been beating slightly easier opponents than the best fighters in the welterweight division.

Daniel Cormier believes a five-round fight suits Edwards, who also fights in front of a home crowd.

“Technically it suits Belal, a slow-paced fight will suit Belal in terms of his wrestling ability in three rounds… But over five rounds, I think it will start to favor Leon because Leon’s ability to continue the dangerous strikes in the fourth and fifth rounds will be a lot higher,” Cormier said.

UFC 304 Undercard is Stacked

There are a lot of important fights on the UFC 304 undercard, including Tom Aspinall vs Curtis Blaydes, Bobby Green vs Paddy Pimblett, and Muhammad Mokaev vs Manel Kape.

Our 2024 July MMA report expects the fight between Green and Pimblett to be one of the most watched of the month.

Pimblett is one of the more enigmatic fighters in the industry, and being a local, the crowd will be right behind him.

He has copped a lot of slack throughout his career for being more hype than talent, but if he defeated Green, that will put him near the top of the lightweight rankings.

“As you know, UFC 300, everybody wants a slice of ‘The Baddy,'” Pimblett said. “Bobby Green screamed my name on the mic after it. Didn’t surprise me, know what I mean? He might be ranked, but he’s got no followers and he needs me.”

MMA odds should have the Green vs Pimblett fight at even odds.

Namajunas Kicks Things Off

Rose Namajunas returns to the UFC at the Fight Night in mid-July, and that will attract a lot of attention.

The 32-year-old is 13-6 and was meant to face Maycee Barber, but she now faces Tracy Cortez in the flyweight division.

The former strawweight champion is one of the most popular fighters in the world, so all eyes will be on that fight at Ball Arena.

UFC President Dana White recently said Namajunas doesn’t want the pressure of fighting for another title shot, which could affect betting lines.

“What I’m hearing is Rose does not want a title shot. Rose does not want to fight for a title,” White said. “I don’t think she (liked the pressure of being a champion). She doesn’t want to fight for the title. So we’ll see how that all plays out.”

Also fighting on the Fight Night card are Santiago Ponzinibbio vs Muslim Salikhov. The welterweights are evenly matched, so that should be a good fight in Denver.

Drew Dober vs Mike Davis also promises to be an exciting fight, and our 2024 July MMA report gives the slight edge to Dober.

Looking Forward to Lemos

It’s all about the women on the two Fight Night cards in July, including Amanda Lemos vs Virna Jandiroba on July 20.

Lemos is 14-3-1 and looking to improve her record in the strawweight division over 20-3 Jandiroba.

Lemos, given her experience at the top level and coming off a win over Mackenzie Dern, will be the favorite to keep her winning form intact.

Jandiroba scored a decision win over Loopy Godinez, but she will start the fight as the underdog.

She fought for the title against Weili Zhang at UFC 292, so she’s the class fighter on the card, which also includes Brad Tavares vs Park Jun-Yong and Steve Garcia vs Choi Seung-Woo.

It’s not the most exciting UFC Fight Night card, and being held at the UFC Apex doesn’t help. However, there are some important fights on the card, and bettors should get generous odds throughout the night.
