Preliminary Card Fights
Jack Jenkins vs Herbert Burns is the first fight on the preliminary card. Jenkins looks to rebound from a disappointing injury-plagued loss in his last fight. His opponent, Burns, is hard to predict. Burns shows flashes of brilliance but often goes missing when the going gets tough.
With Burns’ tendency to wilt under pressure, Jenkins should have a clear path to victory. If he can capitalize on Burns’ mental fragility, a quick finish is entirely possible. Jenkins seems like a solid bet but at -600 offers very little value.
In O’Neill vs Santos, Santos is riding a wave of momentum with three straight UFC wins against lackluster competition. O’Neill, once a promising prospect, has stumbled recently, losing to Jennifer Maia and Ariane Lipski. O’Neill is fighting at home for this match, giving her shorter odds than expected.
Santos’ well-rounded game gives her the advantage on paper, but O’Neill’s heart and determination could make this a competitive contest.
In Culibao vs Ramos, Culibao is a flashy striker with quick hands and feet. He’s exciting to watch but inconsistency has plagued his UFC career. Wins over lower-tier opponents are mixed with losses to more skilled fighters. Ramos, a veteran of the featherweight division, brings a well-rounded game but has hit a rough patch.
Submissions have been his kryptonite, which could be interesting against Culibao’s striking focus. While Culibao’s striking edge is evident, Ramos’ experience and grappling threat make this a closer fight than the odds suggest.
Tafa vs Walker may be the best preliminary fight. Tafa is a knockout artist who struggles in other aspects of fighting. Walker, on the other hand, is a classic grappler who dreams of smothering opponents. Unfortunately, his takedown defense is very underwhelming.
Given his recent struggles against Lukasz Brzeski, a fighter known more for his durability than his skills, Tafa’s explosive power could be a nightmare for Walker. Expect a short night for the Brazilian if Tafa can land clean.
Early Prelims Fights
In Nolan vs Reyes the odds are telling. Tom Nolan is a walking contradiction. He can light out opponents in a blink, as seen in his win over Martinez. However, he’s also been knocked out by the likes of Nikolas Motta.
Given his chin’s fragility, I’m skeptical about his long-term UFC prospects. The odds heavily favor him here, but I’m not biting.
Song vs Glenn has Song as a slight favorite. Song is a heavy-handed slugger who loves a firefight. He also has a strong chin that can survive a beating. While his power is undeniable, his skill set feels limited at this level.
Ricky Glenn is more versatile, but his chin has betrayed him in the past. Song’s punching power could be a real problem for Glenn, increasing his chances of a knockout.
Stewart Nicoll vs Jesus Santos Aguilar is hard to predict. Nicoll is a promising newcomer with grappling chops, but we haven’t seen enough of him. Aguilar has UFC experience but has faced mostly low-level competition. Nicoll is fighting at home, which could be the difference maker.
Taking The Favorite In Prelims
Prelims are often a good way to find some value bets. They are harder to predict with fighters that are less established than main card fighters, but often have more lopsided fights.
Taking some heavy favorites in the preliminary fights is a decent way to win some bets, but in fighting, anything can happen. In the Du Plessis vs Adesanya Prelims make sure to check out the UFC stats and UFC 305 odds to make your bets.
