Makhachev Doing Makhachev Things
It’s hard to bet against one of the dominant forces in MMA, so we’re not going to.
The Russian lightweight champion is 25-1, and he comes off some impressive and tough performances.
Poirier is a tough customer, but he’s not on the same level as Makhachev, so we think he’ll get soundly beaten on Saturday.
Makhachev vs Poirier props have the champion at -105 to win by submission, which is his weapon of choice. He has beaten many fighters by submission, and Poirier’s fighting style plays into his hands.
We can’t imagine a world where Makhachev suffers a defeat to Poirier, and our only worry is him winning by KO or decision.
A KO or TKO win is a +250 chance with Makhachev vs Poirier props, but bettors should be confident in either Poirier tapping out or falling asleep.
For a touch more value, take Makhachev to win by sub in Round 2. It pays +550, so there is enough value at the sportsbook to place a wager.
Price to Hammer Down on Morono
We are confident of a Price win, and despite some moderate recent UFC results, he’s a good fighter to follow.
He leaves everything in the Octagon, and when it comes to betting on UFC props, that can be a good thing.
We believe either Morono or Price will win via knockout, and because we expect Price to win, we’re taking the +375 odds.
It should be an electric fight, and it could be one from the outset. They met seven years ago when Price won by KO, and although Morono doesn’t want a repeat of that, he knows the mistakes he made.
“It’s funny we have both had 10 fights in the UFC since our first fight. I reference my fight with Niko to my students all the time because I tell them that was arguably the best performance of my life and I lost,” Morono said.
“Round one, it was the best round of MMA I have had and I made one mistake and got caught.”
We’re happy with the +375 odds for Morono to get caught again, and lightning can strike twice.
We’re Hoping He Doesn’t Costa Much!
Paulo Costa can produce some head scratching results, but we’re sticking with the Brazilian.
He fights Sean Strickland on the UFC schedule, who won the middleweight title when beating Israel Adesanya before losing it at his next fight against Dricus Du Plessis.
Costa has been called a “balloon animal” by many of his UFC opponents, including Adesanya, and it’s hard to disagree. However, Strickland isn’t always the smartest fighter in the Octagon.
That could play against him in New Jersey, as Costa will be seeking a knockout victory to get back into title contention after some moderate fights.
Costa is a +335 chance to win by knockout, and those odds are better than we expected. He won’t win the fight by decision, and certainly not by submission, so the odds appeal.
He’s an outsider to win the fight, but getting those odds for a fighter with his strength is too good to pass up. He just needs to rush Strickland, like Du Plessis, and he’ll get his hand raised.
There is also value with Costa in Round 1 at +900. He will be head hunting from the outset, and given Strickland’s willingness to trade, Costa could catch him with a big right hand.
