UFC 283 Betting Odds Predict Close Contest

The First PPV of 2023

UFC 283 betting odds have been released for the first big fight of the year between Glover Teixeira vs Jamahal Hill.

The light heavyweight contest headlines UFC 283 and with Hill favored every so slightly at -120, the sportsbook believes there will be nothing between them.

It’s one of the more intriguing fights on the 2023 UFC schedule and it all goes down on Saturday at Jeunesse Arena

No Respect for Home Hero

We believe Glover Teixeira should be favored when fighting in Brazil, and given his pedigree, he could firm in UFC 283 betting odds throughout the week.

The 43-year-old might be in the twilight of his career, but he’s a 33-8 fighter who won the title when beating Jan Blachowicz in 2021. He then lost the title to Jiri Prochazka last year, but he deserves all the respect in the world.

He’s one of the more underrated fighters in the UFC and we expect UFC betting odds to soon realize that the -110 price is too generous.

The Brazilian has every chance to reclaim his belt, and although it’s easier when it’s vacant, his experience in winning the belt makes him a threat against a guy like Hill, who hasn’t fought in such a big fight.

‘Dana White believes Prochazka is the rightful title holder, but Glover Teixeira or Hill get their chance to hold it in the meantime.’

“He will still be looked at as the champ,” White said about Prochazka. “He never lost the belt. He vacated it. These guys will fight for the title. There might actually be two fights that happen before he’s able to return after that shoulder surgery.”

Having 33 wins on your record can’t be overlooked and he still has plenty of power in the tank. He showed that when beating Anthony Smith with a fifth-round knockout in 2020 before showcasing his wrestling skills with submission wins over Thiago Santos and Blachowicz.

Bettors should expect UFC 283 betting odds to remain steady, but there should be some movement for Texeira.

Hill in Foreign Territory

It’s one thing to fight for a vacant UFC light heavyweight title, but it’s another to do that in enemy territory.

The 11-1 fighter from Chicago has been on a tear with knockout wins against Johnny Walker, Santos, and Jimmy Crute. However, he was knocked out by Paul Craig, so he can let his guard down and that worries us.

‘The 31-year-old has yet to face anyone on the same level as Glover Teixeira, and although Hill is the more progressive fighter, he could be overwhelmed by the situation.’

Not only does he have to fight in Brazil, where the crowd will be 99% behind Texiera, but he’s also fighting for the title for the first time. That comes with a fair amount of pressure, which has been reflected in UFC 283 betting odds.

Smith, who was beaten by Texiera, believes Hill’s striking could be the difference.

“Jamahal’s a dynamite striker and Glover is a little bit aging, is a little bit slower, and can’t afford to take the damage and speed anymore,” Smith said. “I think we all know what that means. He’s made his money. His bread and butter in the later half of his career has been his ability to grapple and slow people down and push them up against the fence.”

Hill has every chance to win if he takes his opportunity, but he couldn’t have asked for a harder set of circumstances. Had the fight been in the U.S., we might have entertained his chances. However, this is Teixeira’s time to reclaim his belt.
