Volta a Catalunya Betting Preview

The Volta a Catalunya began this Monday for the 101st edition of the cycling race. The mountainous route through the Pyrenees normally gives an advantage to the best climbers, including the last winner of the event Adam Yates. However, the elite climber will not be defending his title as he won’t take part in the race this year. His twin brother Simon was among the favorites in Volta a Catalunya betting before the race and was projected as the winner this year.

There are hundreds of sites to choose from for Volta a Catalunya betting, some with more attractive cycling betting odds than others. Besides offering the best odds, great sites are available for other reasons such as fast payouts, great signup bonuses, and the best customer support.

The Ineos Grenadiers team swept the podium in last year’s Volta a Catalunya, with Adam Yates winning the race and his teammates Richie Porte and Geraint Thomas finishing second and third. This was the first time any rider from Ineos Grenadiers was victorious in the event. The team members were ranked among the top contenders for the 2022 title.

The advantage at this point is given to Joao Almeida, who is currently at -200 odds. He has only raced at the World Tour level for two years and was ninth in the UPI rankings at the start of the 2021 season. However, he won Stage 4 and is now the favorite to win this year’s event.

Nairo Quintana rose 17 places in the UCI ranking to 28th and is currently at +300 to take home the title at Volta a Catalunya. The 32-year-old Columbian is a member of Team Arkea-Samsic and won this event back in 2016.

Sergio Higuita is at +400 in Volta a Catalunya betting odds and has had a great showing so far as a member of Team BORA – Hansgrohe. He finished third in Stage 4 behind both Almeida and Quintana.

Another of the top favorites is Juan Ayuso, a Spanish rider who is a member of UAE Team Emirates and was sixth in Stage 4. His odds to win the Volta a Catalunya currently stand at +2500.

Former two-time event winner Alejandro Valverde of Movistar Team was one of the favorites at the start of this event. However, he has now fallen to 54th after Stage 4. His sports betting cycling odds have fallen, as well, now at +80000. Valverde won the Volta a Catalunya 2017 and 2018.

One of the biggest surprises of this week is Wout Poels of Team Bahrain Victorious, who was fourth in Stage 4 after a third-place finish in Stage 3 of this event. His current Volta a Catalunya odds to win are at +6600.

This season, he has the highest PCS ranking position of his career at number 28. His highest finish two weeks ago was ninth in Stage 8 of the Paris – Nice. He is on pace to have one of his best seasons in 2022 and was the winner of the Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista del Sol last month.
