Way Too Early College Football Bowl Predictions

Boredom Drives Us! We Pour Over the NCAAF Schedule to Predict Future Bowl Games

On Saturday, August 25th, the 2023 College Football season will kick off with the Navy Midshipman and Notre Dame Fighting Irish starting us off in Dublin, Ireland at 11:30 am ET / 8:30 am PT on NBC. There will be 43 bowl games in 2023-2024, starting with the Bahamas Bowl on December 16th, culminating with the College Football National Championship in NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. This is the time of year when we try to make our future College Football Bowl predictions, and who knows, maybe we’ll get a few right. There are a ton of games to choose from, but we’ll start with the playoff games, followed by a few lower-level College Football Bowl predictions.

Georgia, Ohio State First in Playoffs

Of all the teams we could choose from, we think the Georgia Bulldogs and Ohio State Buckeyes are going to be shoe-ins for the postseason. These two teams will land in the first-round bowl games in either the Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl, which are up in the rotation to host the College Football playoff semi-finals. The Bulldogs are -250 to make the playoffs while the Buckeyes are -125 to join them.

The teams on the Georgia schedule are a combined 80-70 (53.33) based on their 2022 record, that’s the 63rd most difficult schedule in College Football. OSU has a more difficult road with the 9th most difficult schedule (94-60, 61%). The question is, after working through our projected final College Football standings, which two teams will join them? After a one-year’s absence, we anticipate the return of the Alabama Crimson Tide (+135) and USC Trojans (+325) who have never been selected to participate in the College Football playoffs.

There are our four teams, not a bad playoff if we don’t mind saying. We think Georgia will take out USC in the Sugar Bowl to avoid a home-field advantage in the Rose Bowl, while Ohio State gets by Alabama in the Rose Bowl. To conclude our early College Bowl predictions, we’re going with the Ohio State Buckeyes (+600) to win the 2024 National Championship.

Before we move on, there is a team that you may want to put a small amount of cash on to roll the dice some, and that’s the LSU Tigers (+1200) who have a massive chip on their shoulders, starting with head coach Brian Kelly who has taken a lot of criticism from fans after leaving Notre Dame and their players in the dust after a win at Stanford. The Tigers, who were 10-4 last season, own the nation’s 63rd toughest schedule (80-70) which should pave the way for the Tigers to have a shot at a spot in the playoffs. That does it for the playoff, we conclude our College Football odds with a few thoughts on a few other lower-level games.

Arizona Bowl to Host Tough Bobcats Team Again, Aggies in Hawaii

There are no other teams in College Football that should have a clearer path to Bowl games than the Ohio Bobcats and New Mexico State Aggies. The Bobcats won 10 games last season, culminating with a 30-27 overtime win against the Wyoming Cowboys in the Arizona Bowl. Ohio’s opponents have a combined record of 58-89 (.400) this season, the 133rd-strongest schedule in College Football, which ranks them dead-last.

With a crowd of just under 28,000 last year, we think the Tucson-based bowl game would be more than happy to have the Bobcats back unless they decide to go to the First Responders Bowl in University Park, Texas. Expect another 10-win season, giving Ohio a few choices to make come December.

The New Mexico Aggies will be interesting to watch after a 24-19 win in last year’s Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit, Michigan. Jerry Kill’s team won six of their last seven games in 2022, and have a schedule that should have Kill’s team around the 7-8 win mark once again. That does it for our early College Football Bowl predictions, we wish you the best this entire season.
