New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons

These old NFC South foes will square up again to start the NFL season. This particular rivalry has been one of the best in the NFL in the last few years, but rest assured: there is no love lost here. The Saints have won 4 of the last 5 against the Dirty Birds. Can they keep that up?

Saints vs Falcons Highlights

The Saints have gone through a transition in recent years, managing to recover from losing future Hall of Famer Drew Brees to retirement a year ago, only to have coach Sean Payton to walk away this offseason. The question is, can they bounce back under the stewardship of Dennis Allen? Would-be starting quarterback Jameis Winston is reportedly looking good in his recovery from a torn ACL, and the defense looks fearsome with the addition of the Honey Badger himself, Tyrann Mathieu.

Much like their old enemies across the gulf, the Falcons are also starting a new era. Arthur Smith is starting his second season without Matt Ryan, who was traded in the offseason to the Colts. Ryan was the franchise’s all-time passing leader, and a former league MVP, so the fate of Atlanta’s season will rest with either veteran Marcus Mariota, or rookie Desmond Ridder at QB.

If you’re in the mood to bet on NFL games, then New Orleans looks like the favorite on paper, with Michael Thomas and rookie Chris Olave at receiver and a high-powered defensive unit capable of slowing whichever QB lines up under center on the other side. But Atlanta boasts some exciting weapons, such as dynamic playmaking tight end Kyle Pitts and rookie receiver Drake London. As long as the passers deliver, Saints vs Falcons odds should be a high-scoring game.

NFL betting odds have the Saints as favorites, and the smart bet would be for them to run away with the contest and cover the spread.
