Seattle Seahawks History
The Seattle Seahawks joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team after being founded in 1974. Despite the relatively young franchises, they have had success in their life span, winning one Super Bowl and appearing in three. They have only had four terrible seasons where they were winning less than five games, in their nearly 50 years as a franchise. When they joined the NFL, they started in the AFC, but in 2001 they changed conferences and headed to the NFC. They are the only team to play in both Conferences’ Championship games.
Since the 2000s, the team has been one of the best teams in the NFL, missing the playoffs only five times since 2003. The Seattle Seahawks team stats reflect that quarterback Russell Wilson has played a massive factor in their success. However, during this time, the Seahawks team’s stats on defense were the stars of the show, as the defense was nicknamed Legion of Boom in the early 2010s and went down as one of the best defenses in NFL history.
