Athletes Who Had a Unforgettable Year… for the Wrong Reasons

Reaching the Top Ain’t Easy, but Staying It’s Reserved Only for Legends

Can’t Wait for 2024 🤞

2023 has been a wild year for sports with some icons being born and other icons losing some of their shine. For the purposes of this article, we’re gonna focus on the biggest 2023’s disappointments and what they need to do to have a much better 2024.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

2023 has been ripe with major sports news and sports rumors and here are the players who generated a lot of them.

⚽ Neymar

Brazil forward Neymar is still an international superstar and he’s probably not too upset with his 2023, considering he got a two-year contract worth $300 million from Saudi Club Al-Hilal. However, from a soccer standpoint, Neymar’s 2023 was a big bust.

The only thing that got better was his bank account. He started the year with an ankle injury that knocked him out for the season and then a tear of his anterior cruciate ligament back in October is likely going to keep him out until June. Congrats on getting the bag but nobody is going to care about you if you don’t start playing soccer.

🎾 Rafael Nadal

Speaking of injuries, they were not kind to Rafael Nadal in 2023. For the first time since 2003, he dropped out of the world’s top 100. The most apathetic sports fan will even be familiar with the tennis legend but his star is starting to fade.

At 37, it’s hard to imagine Nadal bouncing back in any major way but he could get back into the top 100. The biggest thing he needs to do in 2024 is figure out how to stay healthy. If he can do that, he should still be a difficult tennis matchup on the tennis court.

🏈 Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers had an awful 2023. Early in the year, he got knocked out of the NFL playoff race in the last game of the season while he was still with the Packers. He then kept the NFL world hostage as we waited for him to get traded to the Jets.

In just a handful of plays, Rodgers tore his Achilles, which led to the Jets having a nightmare season. The quarterback plans to return in 2024 and it’ll be easy for him to make a big comeback if he’s healthy. However, he’s 40 now so staying healthy is easier said than done.

🏀 Ja Morant

Oh, Ja Morant, you were destined to take over for LeBron James as the face of the NBA but you squandered a golden opportunity. Morant became a global superstar in 2022 but he lost a lot of fans in 2023 due to a series of moronic decisions. It started with a controversy involving his crew and the Pacers and ended with him getting suspended to start this NBA season.

Morant’s two separate incidents of showing off a gun on Instagram Live should be in the Hall of Fame of stupid things an athlete has done. Luckily for Morant, he’s only 24 and has already served his suspension. If he can just stay off of Instagram Live, he’ll have a much better 2024.

⚾ Wander Franco

In cases of players who fumbled the bag before ever getting one, Wander Franco might be the GOAT. The 22-year-old shortstop looked like the MLB’s next big thing. He was a first-time All-Star in 2023 and was in the MVP race.

The problem is that he’s allegedly a pervert and was dating a minor. Now the Dominican authorities are after him and just raided his house. Unfortunately, there is no redemption tour coming for Franco in 2024 or beyond. He’s almost certainly done playing in the MLB.

🏈 Deshaun Watson

Speaking of alleged perverts, we can’t end this list without talking about Deshaun Watson, who might be at the center of the worst trade in NFL history. The player with the most guaranteed money in the NFL has been ass since getting traded to the Cleveland Browns.

He was playing like shit before breaking a bone in his throwing shoulder which caused his 2023 season to end early. Somehow, the Browns have arguably been better with Joe Flacco at quarterback. Watson should be healthy next season and he’ll have more time with the Browns under his belt. If he can’t have a better year in 2024, it might be time for the Browns to start panicking as there’s no easy way to get off his contract.

Sniper-PhotoAuthor: Sin City Sniper

Busting bookmakers and taking their money is his greatest joy in life. He’s been around the block more than once, knows the players both on and off the field of battle, and uses his experience to serve the bookies a heaping plate of humble pie washed down by a warm glass of their salty tears. You can find him in any number of Vegas books, sniping weak lines and getting paid to do it.
