Kylian Mbappe: PSG Fans Bid Farewell to A Legend

PSG Didn’t Prepare Any Special Treatment for Mbappe, but the Ultra Fans Delivered Big

Undeniable PSG Legend 🐢

Sunday’s French Ligue 1 festivities saw Kylian Mbappe work his magic at the Parc de Princes one last time. Paris Saint-Germain collected a 12th domestic trophy, and their superstar went out in style as the lone goalscorer.

Mbappe broke soccer news headlines when he officially announced via social media last week that he would not be renewing his contract at PSG.

Sunday’s league clash with Toulouse will be the French legend’s final game in the capital, sporting a Rouge et Bleu jersey.

The footballing hero from the outskirts of Paris was celebrated by PSG’s Collectif Ultras Paris, who unraveled a massive tifo of Mbappe when the team was warming up. The seven-time Ligue 1 winner paused his warm-up and greeted fans in the Auteuil stand.

Before the tifo’s reveal, a heartwarming message was displayed by PSG fans: “A child of the Paris suburbs, you have become a legend of PSG,” as Mbappe looked on and smiled.

These celebrations, surprisingly, weren’t met by the club. Outside of a short homage made by PSG speaker Michel Montana post-game, PSG didn’t commemorate Mbappe whatsoever.

Returning the Favor

Of course, it was Mbappe who delivered Paris’s only goal of the night. The Champions League standings, shows that the final result (1-3 loss) didn’t go as expected, but Mbappe’s goal-scoring efforts were fitting en route to PSG’s history-making 12th domestic title, which they celebrated after the final whistle.

The PSG Ultras celebrated Mbappe when the club didn’t, and he celebrated them by giving home supporters another goal at Parc des Princes. It was the Frenchman’s 256th goal in all competitions for PSG, a club record that will likely remain for years, perhaps decades to come.

One More Trophy Before La Liga for Kylian Mbappe?

With his seventh Ligue 1 trophy won as a PSG player and a disappointing exit from the Champions League, Mbappe could still add more silverware before his departure.

Lyon and PSG will compete in the French Cup on May 25 according to the Champions League Schedules. A win for the Paris club would complete a clean sweep of domestic success and a bitter-sweet end for Mbappe.

Soccer rumors aren’t shying away from the elephant in the room, however: PSG haven’t directly celebrated Mbappe’s final game at Parc des Princes.

This decision has sparked criticism from fans and pundits alike, who argue that the club should have done more to honor one of its greatest players. Perhaps the backlash could force them to recognize his contributions should they win the French Cup.

Either way, Kylian Mbappe’s future has been an open secret since February, when he revealed his intentions to leave the club during a private meeting.

With “Los Blancos” expected to be front runners in receiving Kylian Mbappe’s services, the soccer world is abuzz with anticipation. According to the Champions League Team stats, this potential move, a tagline in soccer rumors that has been one of the longest transfer sagas in football history, could see the French international arrive in La Liga next term as a free agent signing for Real Madrid.
