Lamar Jackson’s MVP and an NFL Honors Full of Surprises
Lamar Jackson, the Texans, and the Browns Won Big in a Historic 2024 NFL Honors

Making History 🤩
In the most recent NFL news, Commissioner Roger Goodell presided over the league’s annual NFL Honors star-studded event, recognizing the game’s most dynamic players from the 2023 campaign. Let’s find out who took home the hardware in their respective categories as we await Super Bowl 2024!
MVP – Lamar Jackson | QB |
Baltimore Ravens
Lamar Jackson | Stats |
---|---|
Games Played | 16 |
Passing Touchdowns | 24 |
Passing Yards | 3,678 |
Completion Rate | 67.2% |
Passer Rating | 102.7 |
Interceptions | 7 |
Rushing Touchdowns | 5 |
Rushing Yards | 821 |
Lamar Jackson had a disappointing exit from the postseason after the Ravens’ 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. But even though he will be watching Super Bowl 58 like the rest of us, it’s impossible to ignore his dominating regular-season performance.
Stephen A. Smith calls out the one voter who didn’t give Lamar Jackson a first-place MVP vote.
“That was a stupid homer vote by that individual, probably scared to go back in the locker room if he had voted against Josh Allen. That compromises everything. You have to be… pic.twitter.com/nWUnofubKn

Jackson not only led the Ravens to the league’s best record at 13-4 but put on a masterful display by scoring four touchdowns in Baltimore’s 34-10 thrashing of the Texans in the Divisional Round.
Make that two MVP trophies for Lamar 🏆🏆

Offensive Player of the Year – Christian McCaffrey | RB |
San Francisco 49ers
Christian McCaffrey | Stats |
---|---|
Games Played | 16 |
Rushing Touchdowns | 14 |
Rushing Yards | 1,459 |
Yards Per Carry Average | 5.4 |
Receiving Touchdowns | 7 |
Receiving Yards | 564 |
What can’t the 27-year-old McCaffrey do? He is a Hall-of-Famer in the making and cemented his legacy this past season with his second First Team All-Pro selection and tied the legendary Marshall Faulk with 15 career games in which he scored both a rushing and receiving touchdown. It wouldn’t surprise us if he was performing at the Halftime Show in addition to moving the chains and scoring touchdowns in Sunday’s big game.
Well-deserved honor for the OPOY, @CMC_22 đź‘Ź @surface pic.twitter.com/ntQlm6BUSo

McCaffrey also led the league in scrimmage yards per game (126.4), scrimmage touchdowns (21), rushing yards (1,459), first downs (114), and 10-plus yard runs (44) while playing 16 of 17 NFL games. He now looks to add Super Bowl champion to his list of many accomplishments.
Defensive Player of the Year – Myles Garrett | DE |
Cleveland Browns
Myles Garrett | Stats |
---|---|
Games Played | 16 |
Total Tackles | 42 |
Solo Tackles | 33 |
Sacks | 14 |
There are few, if any, pass rushers in the league that terrify opposing offenses more than the 6’4”, 272-pound edge rusher, Myles Garrett. Despite being double-teamed on over 28% of his snaps – third most in the league – his 35 pass-rush wins tower above every other player in the league, with T.J. Watt’s 26 wins coming in a distant second.
In 7yrs Myles Garrett already has a resume to show he’s the best #Browns defensive player EVER
-1st ever Brown to win DPOY
-Franchise leader in sacks & TFLs
-2nd in defensive All-Pros
-3rd in forced fumblesThe 28yr old DE is just getting started

Offensive Rookie of the Year – C.J. Stroud | QB |
Houston Texans
C.J. Stroud | Stats |
---|---|
Games Played | 15 |
Passing Touchdowns | 23 |
Passing Yards | 4,108 |
Completion Rate | 63.9% |
Passer Rating | 100.8 |
Interceptions | 5 |
Rushing Touchdowns | 3 |
Rushing Yards | 167 |
The No. 2 overall pick in the draft proved to be head and shoulders above Bryce Young, whom the Carolina Panthers chose as the top overall pick.
Stroud displayed the cool and calm demeanor of a grizzled veteran blended seamlessly with boundless athleticism. This will be just the first of many NFL awards for Stroud in the future.
Congrats my brother @CJ7STROUD! https://t.co/1IRSHmH72b

Defensive Rookie of the Year – Will Anderson Jr. | DE |
Houston Texans
Will Anderson Jr. | Stats |
---|---|
Games Played | 15 |
Total Tackles | 45 |
Solo Tackles | 29 |
Sacks | 7 |
Houston hit a pair of home runs in last year’s draft. First, they chose C. J. Stroud, who wowed the league in his rookie campaign, and with the No. 3 overall selection, they chose another game-changer in Will Anderson, a standout defensive end at Alabama. All signs point to this dynamic duo making the Texans a Super Bowl contender for years to come.
Will Anderson Jr. wins DROY! 🔥

Coach of the Year: Kevin Stefanski –
Cleveland Browns
Kevin Stefanski has to make room on his mantle for a second NFL Coach of the Year Award after a season in which he was forced to use five starting quarterbacks, something not seen since 1987. Deshaun Watson was the Browns’ signature signing last year and was expected to be the quarterback in Cleveland for the next five years, but he went down early, and so, too, did one of the league’s most dominating rushers, Nick Chubb.
Coach of the Year votes:
Kevin Stefanski: 21
DeMeco Ryans: 20
Dan Campbell: 3
Kyle Shanahan: 3
John Harbaugh: 2
Sean McVay: 1 pic.twitter.com/LVPeKkQ75M— PFF HOU Texans (@PFF_Texans) February 9, 2024
Nevertheless, Stefanski kept the train on track by signing veteran Joe Flacco and guiding the Browns to an 11-6 record, guiding them into the playoffs for only the third time in 24 NFL seasons. Stefanski also took the Browns to the postseason in 2020 when he won his first Coach of the Year Award.
“Kevin Stefanski did a hell of a job in Cleveland, but DeMeco Ryans deserves the COY trophy.”

Comeback Player of the Year: Joe Flacco (QB) –
Cleveland Browns
Veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco was an unsigned 39-year-old quarterback entering this season and it wasn’t until the Browns signed him on November 20th that anyone looked his way. He would get his first start two weeks later, and it was then that the Browns offense caught fire.
Lamar Jackson and Joe Flacco discussed the Ravens-Browns playoff matchup that never came
Jackson: “I’m like man, we’ve gotta go against Flacco”
Flacco: “I was hoping I was gonna get the chance to walk back in there. It was gonna be a lot of fun” pic.twitter.com/QEkG7JXFtU
— Kevin Oestreicher (@koestreicher34) February 9, 2024
Flacco would lead the NFL in passing yards over the five consecutive regular-season games he started and would subsequently launch for 307 yards in a 45-14 postseason loss to the Texans. Despite the disappointing ending, Flacco has rekindled his career, and his truncated 2023 season could tip the scales in his favor for his induction into the NFL Hall-of-Fame when he hangs up the cleats for good.
Big night for the @HoustonTexans and @Browns 🏆 #NFLHonors pic.twitter.com/eLFl3MQwTZ
