NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Gets 3-Year Contract Extension
Goodell Will Have Raked In $700M in His Time as NFL Commissioner

What Will He Do Next in the NFL?Â
He’s not going anywhere! According to NFL news, Commissioner Roger Goodell has agreed to a three-year extension that will keep him under contract until 2027.Â
While the exact figures of his new contract aren’t known, he’s expected to end his run having made over $700 million as the NFL Commissioner. Love him or hate him, it’s clear that the owners are big fans of his. They should be, as the NFL is only gaining in popularity, which has made the owners very rich.

Now that Goodell has secured a new deal, he’s excited to see what new things the league can pull off over the course of the rest of his contract. Not that the NFL matchups have to do anything with it…
“From my standpoint, there’s still a number of things that we want to do as a league,” Goodell said of his key priorities heading into his new deal. “It’s not my agenda. When we talked about a long-range plan [with owners], we talked about, ‘this is your long-range plan.’
“Listen, there are a lot of challenges out there, but there are also a lot of opportunities for us. We’re focused on how we make the NFL better every day, how we become a global sport. I think some very exciting things are happening in that context. I feel really good about where the National Football League is today, but we don’t sit around and tell ourselves that. We really focus on the things that we need to do.”
Goodell is already 64 and the last two NFL Commissioners both retired before they were 65. He’s set to be the oldest Commissioner in NFL history if he can finish his contract. In fact, he’s not even sure if this will be his last contract. What would the NFL odds be for that, by the way?
Roger Goodell is 64, and some believe this will be his final deal with the NFL. Former NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle stepped down from the job when he was 63, and Paul Tagliabue walked away when he was 65. https://t.co/rDfS0TXThh

“We will see what the future holds,” Goodell said of a potential retirement. “Other than that, over the next three years, I’m going to bust my butt.”
Fans have grown to hate Goodell over the years, those aren’t just NFL rumors, but I guess that’s to be expected. The Commissioner is supposed to be an authority figure and nobody likes them. However, it’s hard to argue against his track record of growing the NFL. The league is more valuable than it ever has been and he’s overseen a number of NFL team relocations. The Super Bowl owes a lot to the guy!

At this point, we know what we’re going to get with Goodell which is less scary than if they were to bring in an unknown. Now that he has more job security it will be interesting to see what the owners have planned to continue growing the league.
