Atalanta Stats History

Atalanta B.C. were founded in 1907 by local high school students. The Italian Football Federation first recognized Atalanta in 1914 and the club merged with rivals Bergamasca in 1920.

First promoted to Serie A in 1937, Atalanta were in the top tier during the 1940s and much of the 1950s. They were relegated in 1958 due to match fixing allegations, which were later proven false. La Dea returned to Serie A one season later, by winning Serie B.

One of the most notable Atalanta team stats is from 1963. In that year, Atalanta won their first and only major trophy, the Coppa Italia. Angelo Domenghini scored a hat trick in the final as Atalanta defeated Torino, 3-1. Atalanta’s first major UEFA appearance was in the 1963-64 Cup Winners’ Cup.

Atalanta B.C Team Records

The club bounced around divisions in the 1970s and played in the third tier for the first time in history in 1981. Within three seasons, though, Atalanta earned promotion back into Serie A. One of the more interesting Atalanta stats came from 1987-88. Despite being in the second division at the time, Atalanta made the semifinals of the Cup Winners’ Cup. It was the best finish of any club outside of the top flight in a UEFA competition.

La Dea were back in Serie A shortly after and qualified for their first UEFA Cup in 1989. In 1996-97, Filippo Inzaghi became the first and only Atalanta player to win the Golden Boot, or the Capocannoniere.

Atalanta’s best period came in the late 2010’s under Gian Piero Gasperini. They finished a club record third place in Serie A three consecutive seasons from 2018-19 to 2020-21. La Dea played in the Champions League for the first time in 2019-20 and reached the quarterfinals.

In 2022-23, Atalanta are not playing in European competition for the first time in six seasons. So, all of their focus will be on Serie A and the Coppa Italia. Keep that in mind when betting on their Serie A odds. For betting advice on the upcoming season, Atalanta to win at +2500 isn’t horrible value.
