U.S Lecce Team Stats History

Originally a multi-sports club, Sporting Club Lecce was created in 1908. Lecce mostly played in regional competitions during this team and folded in 1924. Lecce returned in 1927 under their current name, Unione Sportiva Lecce.

Lecce won their local league to earn promotion to Serie B in 1930. However, they once again shut down the club in 1932. Upon a second return, in 1937, they played in Serie C and won promotion to Serie B post WWII. Despite Anselmo Bislenghi topping the Lecce team stats, with 87 goals during this period, Lecce languished in the lower leagues.

They even spent time in the fourth tier in the 1950s. They stabilized as a third division club from 1959 to 1976, though. Before finally returning to Serie B, Lecce finished in second place in three consecutive years from 1971 to 1974.

The Giallorossi registered a cup win in the U.S. Lecce team stats with a Coppa Italia Serie C title in 1976. Their first promotion to Serie A came in 1985 but they only managed to stay in the league for a season. A resilient Lecce returned in 1988 and managed a ninth place finish in 1989. Throughout the 90s and early 2000s, Lecce yo-yoed between the top two divisions.

From 2003 to 2006, they managed three straight Serie A seasons. In 2004, Lecce managed to defeat powerhouses Juventus and Inter Milan and finish tenth. Again, Lecce finished tenth in 2005 but couldn’t escape relegation in 2006.

In 2010, they won the Serie B title but were implicated in the Scommessopoli match fixing scandal in 2012. So, they were relegated to the third tier and didn’t return to Serie B until 2018. With successive promotions, Lecce reached Serie A once again but were relegated following the 2019-20 season. The Giallorossi won the Serie B title again in 2022 to return to Serie A.

Betting advice often mentions the fact that Lecce have never finished a Serie A season in higher than ninth place. With that in mind, their +10000 Serie A odds to make the top four seem to make sense. In their last five Serie A seasons, Lecce have finished no higher than 17th.
